Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- A change of scenery did not help the 
slumping Phoenix Suns.

Antonio Davis sank a follow shot with 7.8 seconds left on his
team's third attempt of that possession and the rejuvenated
Toronto Raptors slipped past the Suns, 92-89.

The Raptors were trailing, 89-88, with 14 seconds left when
Vince Carter missed a long jumper and Morris Peterson's putback
was off-target.

But Davis, who finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds,
outjumped a pair of Suns and used his left hand to tip in
Peterson's miss.  It was his fourth consecutive double-double.

"We don't want it to come down to those situations," Davis said.
"I think the last few games, we learned something from coming
out in the last possessions and communicating much better."

"I missed it, but Antonio followed me up and made a big play,"
Peterson said.  "He did a great job for us, but everybody did.
We came together when it counted, and that's what we need."

Stephon Marbury missed a driving layup at the other end and
Davis added two free throws to seal the Raptors' sixth win in
seven games.

"I see Marbury coming down the lane and two or three guys are
already there before I get there," Davis said.  "That shows me
we are learning from our mistakes."

Marbury scored 22 points and rookie Amare Stoudemire 14 for the
Suns, who were starting a four-game road trip after losing three
of four at home.

"It was a very tough loss," Marbury said.  "Anytime you have a
team down on the road, you've got the opportunity to win the
game. ... There's no such thing as `We had it,' or `We're going
to win.'  Until the clock stops, the game isn't over."

Davis went 9-of-12 from the field to pace the Raptors' 46.5
percent (40-of-86) effort from the field.  Reserve Michael
Bradley, who missed the previous three games with a sore lower
back, contributed eight points and five rebounds in 14 minutes.

"Michael Bradley gave us a great game off the bench," Toronto
coach Lenny Wilkens said.

After Marbury's bucket with 6:10 to play gave the Suns an 81-71
advantage, Bradley began Toronto's 10-0 surge with a lay-in,
then capped it with a reverse layup that evened the game at
81-81 with 3:10 left.

The lead changed hands three times before goaltending was called
on a jumper by Stoudemire with 30 seconds to go.  The bucket
gave the Suns an 89-88 edge with 30 seconds to go and set up
Davis' game-winner.

Jerome Williams scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds,
Peterson added 14 points and Carter was held to 13 and eight
boards for the Raptors, who enjoyed a 53-46 rebounding advantage
and dished out 28 assists to Phoenix's 15.

The 53 boards matched a season high for Toronto.

"We came out there with a conscious effort to concentrate on the
glass," Bradley said.

The Suns took a 31-24 lead after one period and held a 46-43
halftime advantage, but the Raptors surged in front, 68-64,
after three quarters.

A dunk by Stoudemire 44 seconds into the final period sparked a
17-3 run by Phoenix.

Benched for the start of the game for breaking an undisclosed
team rule, Stoudemire went 5-of-11 from the field and grabbed
six rebounds.  Jake Voskuhl scored 14 points and Bo Outlaw had
10 for the Suns, who shot just 36 percent (33-of-91)
from the floor.

Phoenix forward Shawn Marion, who averaged 26 points in his
previous five games, was held to eight on 3-of-19 shooting.

"That's the worst I ever shot," Marion said.  "It happens,
that's basketball.  Sometimes you hit them, sometimes you
don't."

Tom Gugliotta scored two points in four minutes for the Suns. It
was his first action after missing 44 games with a stress
fracture in his right foot.
