Game Story

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Tracy McGrady may miss Mike Miller, but the new-look Orlando Magic are bringing out the best in him. McGrady had his second career triple-double with 46 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds as the Magic scored the first 17 points of the fourth quarter and went on to a 113-105 victory over the New Jersey Nets. After pouring in a career-high 52 points in Friday's rout of Chicago. McGrady said he was inspired by the trade of Miller, his best friend on the team, and was almost as effective Sunday. "My confidence is so high right now. The basket feels so big to me," said McGrady, whose other triple-double came exactly one year ago against Philadelphia. "I'm in a zone right now. I hope to stay in that zone for the rest of the season." Wednesday's deal brought Drew Gooden and Gordan Giricek to Orlando and the rookies have made an impact, scoring 15 points apiece after combining for 37 against the Bulls. "I thought Gordan Giricek was amazing. He made big shot after big shot," Orlando coach Doc Rivers said. "It is really nice to have more options." Pat Garrity scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter on two 20-foot jumpers and a 3-pointer. McGrady followed with the next 10 to give the Magic a commanding 107-89 lead. He sank a jumper, made two free throws and drained a pair of 3-pointers. The Nets appeared to playing in a thick fog similar to the one that shut down the nearby New Jersey Turnpike. They missed their first 15 shots of the final period and did not score until Jason Kidd sank a 3-pointer with six minutes left. "In the flow of the game, you don't notice that," Nets forward Richard Jefferson said. "I really had no idea that was going on." The Nets used a pressing defense in an attempt to get back in the game, but the closest they got was at the final buzzer. "Usually in games like this, when we have the lead and teams make runs and take the lead, we fold," McGrady said. "Today we kept our composure. We executed on offense, played tough on defense and we never looked back." Kenyon Martin had 27 points for New Jersey, which fell for the fifth time in eight games since the All-Star break and for just the fourth time in 29 home games this season. It marked the second straight contest that a marquee player had a huge game against the Nets. Michael Jordan scored 43 points Friday in Washington's 89-86 win. "We played against the greatest scorer in the game's history and the game's future," New Jersey guard Kerry Kittles said. "You want to try to make them work harder." Kidd also had 15 assists but none in the fourth quarter. He collected 16 points and 11 rebounds for his 49th career triple-double. Kittles and Lucious Harris each scored 13 points for the Nets. The Magic jumped out to 33-18 lead in a fast-paced first quarter, with McGrady scoring nine straight Orlando points at one stretch and finishing the period with 16. The Nets bounced back by scoring the final nine points of the opening quarter, the last seven by Harris. Orlando, which ended a five-game road losing streak, held a double-digit lead for most of the second quarter. The Magic grabbed the largest advantage, 53-37, on a pair of free throws by Gooden with 4:39 left. Martin had 11 points in the second period, but New Jersey still trailed at intermission, 61-50. The Nets went on a 15-2 run in the third quarter and took a 71-69 lead on a 3-pointer by Kittles. McGrady capped the period with a dazzling layup to give the Magic a 90-89 advantage.
