Game Story

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Tim Duncan was a triple threat against the Los Angeles Clippers. Duncan contributed 24 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in just 34 minutes as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 107-96, for their fifth straight victory and 18th in 20 games. "It was fun tonight," said Duncan, who shot 10-of-15. "I really was able to get into a rhythm and was very active out there." "He is an unbelievable player," guard Speedy Claxton said. "There are just so many things he can do. If you get the opportunity to watch him play all the time you learn how dominant he really is." It was Duncan's first triple-double of the season, second regular-season triple-double and third overall. "He was getting us the ball and was very active out there," rookie guard Emanuel Ginobili said. "He can play any position he wants out there. I love playing with him because he just makes things so easy for us." Five other Spurs scored in double figures, including Tony Parker, who scored 10 of his 11 points in a 12-0 burst that gave San Antonio a 51-35 lead with 2:19 left in the first half. "We played a quarter and a half," Clippers coach Dennis Johnson said. "We didn't play well at all. We played selfishly - that's why they had the lead that they did. They had easy baskets right under the rim and that was the reason they won the game." The Spurs took a 59-44 lead into the break and extended their advantage to 89-67 entering the fourth quarter. "We came out and played well as a group," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "I was really pleased with the effort of Speedy and really everyone tonight. We just have to keep working hard and keep getting together as a unit. We are making progress, but still have a lot more progress to go." Lamar Odom scored 26 points to pace the Clippers, who lost for the 11th time in 12 games. "On the offensive end, we truly believe what we run works, but we have to get our guys to understand that they have to execute the whole play and not part of the play," Johnson said. The Clippers shot 49 percent (36-of-74) but allowed the Spurs to connect on 51 percent (44-of-87). San Antonio outscored Los Angeles in the paint, 64-46, and scored 24 points off 18 turnovers to the Clippers' eight off 10 Spurs' giveaways.
