Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The Portland Trail Blazers wasted a 20-point lead against the Memphis Grizzlies for the second straight season and may have cost themselves home-court advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Stromile Swift had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Pau Gasol added 18 and 10 as the Grizzlies rallied for a 96-93 triumph over the Trail Blazers. With the loss, the Trail Blazers (48-31) fell one-half game behind the Minnesota Timberwolves and into a fifth-place tie with the idle Los Angeles Lakers in the West with three games left. "It damages our quest for home-court advantage," Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "We knew we needed this win. It hurts us. What can I say?" Jeff McInnis' jumper just over two minutes into the second quarter opened a 43-23 cushion for Portland. But Memphis responded by closing the half on a 24-11 run and opening the third with a 17-8 surge. "In the third quarter, we were 15-for-17 on the break," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said. "We had 10 guys who made a major contribution and Jason (Williams) did a great job in those final seconds with his inbound passing." After shooting 14-of-26 (.538) in the first quarter, Portland made just 22-of-66 attempts the rest of the way. The Grizzlies' 20-point comeback marked the third largest in team history. Memphis engineered its greatest comeback on March 25, 2002, when the Grizzlies overcame a 25-point deficit and pulled out a 103-100 triumph over the Trail Blazers. "Since the All-Star break, we have lost five (close) games to some really good teams," Brown said. "We (also) have put the Blazers, who are in a three-way tie with the LA Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves in a bad position." Memphis improved to 14-16 since the All-Star Break. Zach Randolph registered career highs with 31 points and 20 rebounds, but the Trail Blazers lost for the fourth time in six games. "We lost," Randolph said. "It was my career night, but it would have looked better if we had won." "We've seen that from Zach," Cheeks said. "We just haven't seen him get that many minutes to do that kind of damage. We know he's capable of doing it." Portland once again struggled without Scottie Pippen, who has been sidelined since undergoing left knee surgery on March 19. The Trail Blazers have gone 5-7 without Pippen. "He creates a lot of mismatches," Blazers guard Derek Anderson said. "I think that kept us in a different situation. A lot of guys didn't get the looks and penetration. ... We just have to adjust our game." Swift and Gasol led five Grizzlies in double figures as Memphis won its second straight game after a seven-game skid. Gasol recorded his 30th double-double of the season, helping the Grizzlies move above .500 on the season at home.
