Game StoryMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- It was a home debut to remember for Joe Smith. Smith scored 12 of his 19 points in the third quarter as the Milwaukee Bucks pulled away for a 98-68 rout of the Chicago Bulls in their home opener. Acquired from Minnesota in the offseason trade involving Sam Cassell, Smith struggled in his first two games as a Buck, shooting 9-of-22. But he turned in his best performance with his new team, pairing with Michael Redd to lead the Bucks to their 11th consecutive home victory over the Bulls. Smith played 24 minutes and had little difficulties getting open looks against Tyson Chandler and Donyell Marshall. The 6-10 forward converted a three-point play with 22 seconds remaining to give Milwaukee a 43-42 halftime lead, then made his first five shots of the second half to help the Bucks open a 62-50 bulge with 4:42 remaining. Milwaukee has not lost at home to Chicago since March 29, 1998, when Michael Jordan still was with the Bulls. That streak appeared in jeopardy as the Bucks got off to a slow start. But Milwaukee recovered and shot 47 percent (20-of-43) in the second half. The Bucks placed five players in double figures as Redd and Tim Thomas added 16 points apiece. Desmond Mason contributed 12 and former Bull Toni Kukoc chipped in 10. In the home debut of new coach Terry Porter, the Bucks got off to a woeful start. They missed 18 of their first 21 shots and seven of their first nine free throws but trailed just 21-16 after the first quarter. Porter, a Wisconsin native who replaced George Karl, got a bigger ovation than most of his players. But after being booed by their fans, the Bucks got going. Smith scored eight straight points to highlight a 24-3 run that gave Milwaukee a 71-51 advantage late in the third. Thomas hit a pair from the line with 9:52 left in the third period for a 49-48 lead before Redd and Brian Skinner hit consecutive layups to fuel the burst. After Chicago's Jamal Crawford made it 56-50 with 6:58 remaining, Smith dunked and nailed a jumper to give Milwaukee its first double-digit lead. The Bucks cruised to their first 30-point victory since November 27. The Bulls scored just 26 points in the second half and shot just 28 percent (23-of-82) overall. Crawford paced Chicago with 17 points but was just 6-of-15.
