Game Story

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- Andrei Kirilenko scored 25 points as the Utah Jazz remained unbeaten at home with a 96-89 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Raja Bell fueled a decisive run for the Jazz, who improved to 4-0 at the Delta Center as they continued their surprising start. "I said if we would come and play, we would have a chance," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "You've got to be tough enough to keep playing." "They are winning games at home, and that's what you have to do with young teams," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said. Utah led by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter, then fought off a late rally by Memphis, which suffered its third straight loss. James Posey scored 17 points for the Grizzlies, who had all five starters in double figures but fell to 2-15 all-time in Utah. They are 5-27 against the Jazz since entering the NBA in 1995. Utah trailed, 70-65, before closing the third quarter with a 9-0 spurt. Bell scored five of his nine points in the burst, making a fast-break layup to give the Jazz the lead for good and adding a 3-pointer for a 74-70 advantage. "We just come out ready to play," Bell said. "On nights that we do what we're supposed to do, we're going to beat people." "Raja Bell, I thought, did a terrific job," Sloan said. "He had his hands on the basketball so many times; it was really fun to watch." In the fourth quarter, Sloan went with rookie Raul Lopez rather than starter Carlos Arroyo at point guard. The move paid off as the lead grew to double digits with the offense being run by Lopez, who had 12 points and four assists. "I thought Lopez did a terrific job for them," Brown said. "He broke us down a lot when they had nothing going. He made things happen by scoring or giving a dish to somebody else. He played great." A jumper by Lopez made it 86-76 with 7:41 remaining. "He had a good night, he played very well," said Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol, a former teammate of Lopez's on European power FC Barcelona. "I was really looking forward to seeing him play, finally, and congratulate him." Memphis closed to 88-85 on Mike Miller's follow shot with 2:34 left. The teams traded hoops before Utah's Matt Harpring made two free throws with 1:30 to play. Gasol made a free throw, but Miller committed an offensive foul with 35 seconds to go. Harpring, who missed Friday's game due to a funeral, scored 14 points. DeShawn Stevenson added 13 and Greg Ostertag pulled down 11 rebounds for the Jazz, who shot 45 percent (36-of-80). Miller scored 16 points, Jason Williams added 14 and 11 assists and Gasol 13 points and 12 boards for the Grizzlies, who shot 43 percent (33-of-76). Memphis completed an 0-3 road trip. "We didn't get anything good out of this road trip," Gasol said. "We had high expectations, but we couldn't get wins."
