Game Story

PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- Zach Randolph did a little bit of everything as the Portland Trail Blazers staged a remarkable comeback against the Sacramento Kings. Randolph had 28 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and three blocks, including a key one in overtime - as the Trail Blazers rallied from a 24-point deficit to defeat the Kings, 112-110. Bonzi Wells added 27 points and nine rebounds and Rasheed Wallace provided 26 points and great defense on Peja Stojakovic for Portland, which erased an 18-point halftime deficit to record its third straight win. "They got everything they wanted in the first half - layups, threes," Wells said. "They hit everything they wanted. We came in here at halftime and told ourselves, 'They're not going to shoot this well in the second half.' We tightened up our defense in the second half and made them work for everything and got back in it." "That's about as good as it gets," Wallace added. "A whole lot of people gave up on us. (In the second half), we went out there and executed." Portland never led in regulation but took the lead for good, 109-107, on a layup by Damon Stoudamire with 3:23 left in overtime. Wallace dunked before Mike Bibby nailed a 3-pointer to pull the Kings within 111-110 with two minutes left. Wallace was called for a moving pick on Bobby Jackson with 16.2 seconds remaining and Bibby drove the lane, but Randolph blocked his leaner and the ball went off Bibby's hand out of bounds with 6.4 seconds left. "That was a good block," Randolph said. "He took it to the basket, I don't think he really wanted to take that shot, but I'm glad I just got a piece of it." Wallace split two free throws and Bibby missed a jumper off the right side of the rim before the buzzer. "The way we stayed in it and battled back was very heartening," said Portland coach Maurice Cheeks, who signed a one-year contract extension through the 2005-06 season earlier Thursday. "It was like the game started for us at 8:30 or 9 instead of 7 p.m. We played so poorly in the first half, and then to come back the way we did really tells you this team really won't give up." Stojakovic scored 27 points, just two after the third quarter, and Bibby had 26 and 15 assists for Sacramento, which fell to 5-37 all-time in Portland. Sacramento struggled down the stretch and overtime without big men Brad Miller, who injured his right thumb, and Vlade Divac, who fouled out with 1:26 left in regulation. "I wish I had one of them down there in the end," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "It hurts our offense 'cause we run a lot of things through those guys, so it really was a factor."
