Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Lamar Odom is starting to pay dividends for the Miami Heat. Odom had 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and lifted Miami to a 105-98 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics. "It's always fun when you've got everybody going both offensively and defensively," Odom said. "I kind of got into the game a little bit." Eddie Jones added 20 points and rookie Dwyane Wade scored 18 for Miami before leaving in the fourth quarter with a left hand injury. Udonis Haslem contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds and Loren Woods had 12 points as the Heat got their first road victory of the season after six losses. "We're getting frustrated from losing so we just came out here and played a focused game," Odom said. "We made some plays today and hit some shots when we needed it." Odom was off to a slow start after suffering a sprained ankle in the Heat's opening game. He averaged 10.4 points and 6.4 rebounds over his first five games but is averaging 18.6 points and 8.8 rebounds over his last five. "It takes a couple of games to get comfortable," Odom said. "I'm just going to go out there and play and I'm glad we were able to capture the win." Ronald Murray led Seattle with a career-high 31 points and Rashard Lewis added 16 as the SuperSonics had just four players reach double figures. "We just weren't focused at all," Murray said. "It was a lot of one-on-one today. We weren't ready to come out and play. We have to defend our home court." Woods' free throw put Miami ahead for good, 89-88, with 5:49 remaining and sparked a 11-2 run. Odom's jumper with 2:47 to go capped the spurt and gave Miami a nine-point lead. The game was evenly played for most of the first half. Seattle led 28-26 after the first quarter, but the score was tied, 51-51 at halftime. Miami shot extremely well from the field at 53 percent (39-of-74) and connected on 50 percent (6-of-12) of its 3-pointers. The Heat also outrebounded Seattle, 48-31. "I don't think its a lack of effort but you have to stand up," Seattle coach Nate McMillan said. "When someone slaps you in the face, slap them back. Don't turn your back on them. That team just got in our chest and we didn't respond." Poor ballhandling by the Heat and good 3-point shooting by Seattle kept the game close. Miami committed 23 turnovers in the game, which Seattle converted into 18 points. The SuperSonics shot well from 3-point range at 37 percent (10-of-27). "We had to face zone a great deal so it was a different game," Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said. "They are really difficult to cover. I didn't think our defense was bad but they are just really difficult to cover. "They spread out all over the place so every mistake is magnified." The Heat won just their second game in Seattle. They last won at the Key Arena on December 7, 2001. Seattle has won 12 of the last 15 meetings between the two and is 23-8 all-time against Miami.
