Game StoryAUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Ben Wallace didn't just look more intimidating. He also put fear into the New York Knicks. Wallace made his presence felt with nine blocked shots as the Detroit Pistons extended their winning streak to four games with a 94-85 victory over the Knicks. The reigning two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Wallace went back to an old look, sporting his afro. It seemed to inspire the 6-9 jumping jack as he fell one block shy of his career high. "Ben was awesome," Pistons coach Larry Brown said. "When you get down in the paint, he's (Wallace) going to change some shots," Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince said. "Seventy percent of the time, the shot's going up, it's going to get changed. That's what he does." Chauncey Billups scored 23 points and Richard Hamilton added 21 to pace the Pistons, who never trailed. Kurt Thomas netted 16 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter for New York, which lost for the sixth time in seven games. Thomas and Wallace also received technical fouls in the fourth quarter after nearly becoming entangled under the Detroit basket. "We've got guys out there trying to be tough because they're on TV," said Wallace, who was voted the league's toughest player in a preseason poll of general managers. "They ain't cut like that for real." "I thought it (technical) was a bad call," Thomas said. "They (officials) said I got all up in his face, but I wasn't anywhere near him." The Knicks played their second straight game without leading-scorer Keith Van Horn, who sat out with a sprained right ankle. It also was a rough game for former Piston Allan Houston, who routinely struggles when he returns to Detroit. He finished with nine points on 4-of-13 shooting. Without Van Horn and with Houston struggling, the Knicks had to battle and claw the entire game. They trailed by as many as 14 points early in the third quarter before pulling within 68-64 with 2:04 left in the period. But the Pistons rebuilt the lead to 84-72 with 8:56 remaining on two free throws by Wallace, who finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. "They were determined, showed a lot of heart," Wallace said. "But you can't beat the Pistons like that. You have to do something else." Billups and Hamilton combined to make 16-of-17 free throws Detroit attempted 37 free throws, 17 more than the Knicks. In Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Knicks had 41 fewer free throw attempts. "Our guys fought hard tonight, but you just have to make shots and we didn't do that tonight," said Knicks coach Don Chaney, whose team shot 39.5 percent (32-of-81).
