Game StoryCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- In a game hyped as a matchup between former prep stars turned pro, four-year college man Latrell Sprewell proved to be the most productive. Sprewell scored a season-high 31 points to upstage Kevin Garnett and LeBron James and lift the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 97-83 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. "When you are on national television, you don't want to go out and not play well," Sprewell said. "Latrell is one of the premier players," Garnett said. "Because of his past, he gets a knock. But you can't take away his ability." Garnett added 20 points and 15 rebounds for Minnesota, which won its fourth straight road game. Garnett started the recent movement of high school players turning pro when he made the jump to the NBA in 1995 and was selected fifth overall. James is the most ballyhooed prodigy as he was selected first overall in this year's draft and signed a $90 million endorsement deal with Nike. "I was no where near LeBron (when I came out of high school)," Garnett said. "LeBron has exceeded the max. He's played a lot of minutes and gets a lot of touches. In the process, expectations have been added to the sky." James led Cleveland with 19 points but 13 came in the fourth quarter, when the game already was decided. Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who had their four-game home winning streak snapped. Forward Carlos Boozer missed his second straight game with a right ankle injury. "It definitely hurt them not having Boozer," Minnesota coach and Cleveland native Flip Saunders said. "It's a matchup on KG (Garnett), and KG got off to a good start." Sprewell scored 17 points in the first half and Garnett added 14 as Minnesota took a 55-46 lead. The Timberwolves led, 75-61, after three quarters, but Cleveland scored six straight points to open the fourth period. Minnesota responded with its own 6-0 run to build a 81-67 cushion with 8:25 to go. "We didn't bring oout our A game,"James said. "Sometimes it happens like that. There is no reason for us not coming out and competing." Cleveland seemed lethargic throughout and scored only 13 fast-break points. The Cavaliers struggled in their half-court sets, shooting 41 percent (33-of-80). "We seemed slow tonight," Cavaliers coach Paul Silas said. "We didn't seem to have energy, for whatever reason. Our mental approach to the game wasn't very good."
