Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Sam Cassell came to life down the stretch to help the Minnesota Timberwolves avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season. Cassell scored 13 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, including 11 in the final five minutes, leading the Timberwolves to a 102-98 triumph over the Memphis Grizzlies. With 4:52 left, a 3-pointer by Mike Miller got Memphis within 85-83. But Cassell erupted, scoring seven points in the next three minutes as Minnesota put away the game with a 9-2 run. "We did a good job down the stretch," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "We executed down the stretch with more aggression and we attacked the rebounds." Kevin Garnett, who collected 21 points and 18 rebounds, had a key block during that stretch, swatting away a shot by Miller that could have gotten the Grizzlies within two points. Cassell hit a 3-pointer at the other end to make it 90-83 with 3:14 left. "That's Wilt Chamberlain (stuff) right there," Cassell said. "He just flew up and took the ball. I was surprised at how open I was, but I made the shot, just trying to be aggressive." While the Timberwolves were impressed by the block, the Grizzlies felt otherwise. "Evidently, it wasn't goaltending because the refs didn't make the call," Memphis coach Hubie Brown said. "There's nothing you can do about it except keep playing." The Grizzlies got no closer than five points the rest of the way, capping a fourth quarter in which they shot just 38 percent (8-of-21). "We've got to finish games," Brown said. "We just have to find a way to close the gap." Latrell Sprewell added 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting for Minnesota, doing most of his damage with 12 points in the third quarter. "It was just a matter of time before he got in rhythm," Cassell said. "He took a lot of the blame in our last two performances, but I told him that we can't survive without him." Jason Williams scored 24 points and tied a season high with 11 assists but could not keep the Grizzlies from losing their third straight game. Miller and Pau Gasol added 20 points apiece, with Gasol pulling down 12 rebounds.
