Game StoryMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Bucks could not stop Larry Hughes down the stretch. Hughes scored 23 of his season-high 36 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as the Washington Wizards edged the Bucks, 114-109, to snap a four-game losing streak. Kwame Brown added 18 points, including a tip-in with less than a second remaining in regulation, as Washington snapped a nine-game losing streak in Milwaukee. Hughes, who scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and eight in overtime, gave the Wizards the lead for good, 100-98, with a jumper that opened the extra period. "That is what the NBA is about - the star player steps up, he's tired of losing," Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. "He did it the right way, he let the game come to him and then when it was time, he felt it and kept it going. That is what good players do." "I was locked in, I was catching the ball where I wanted to and I was taking what they gave me," said Hughes, who made 13-of-22 shots and 8-of-10 free throws. "I was pretty much locked in to taking advantage of every move they were making." The Wizards trailed, 98-94, before Hughes made a layup with 29 seconds left in regulation. After a stop, Hughes missed a jumper. But Brown - a huge disppointment as the top overall pick in the 2001 draft - skied for the rebound and tipped it through with half a second left. "Kwame's tap was huge," Jordan said. "He made himself available to be there. Larry's shot was right there on the front rim and Kwame presented himself there." "Regardless of coming off the bench or not, that is what we need from (Brown), he did a lot in the low post," Hughes said. "He was aggressive and was being fluid with everything." Michael Redd scored 28 points to pace Milwaukee. He scored 14 points in the fourth quarter but was blanked in overtime. Washington led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter and took a 51-41 advantage into the break. But Milwaukee reduced the deficit to 69-65 entering the fourth quarter. "I think our guys did a great job of getting back in it," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "We had the game in our grasp, we had a chance to win it, we just failed in a couple of areas - rebounding down the stretch, free throws down the stretch." Both teams were undone by poor free-throw shooting, with Washington making only 23-of-38 and Milwaukee 31-of-45. Mason was particularly bad, missing seven in a row at one stretch and finishing just 7-of-17 from the stripe. The Wizards shot 47 percent overall (43-of-91) and held the Bucks to 41 percent (36-of-87). "We have to step it up on the defensive end, be aggressive on the offensive end, knock some free throws down and rebound the ball," Mason said. "If we continue to play our style of basketball, we'll get out of this slump."
