Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- In his return from the injured list, Glen Rice overshadowed the return of Dirk Nowitzki. Rice, coming back from a bruised knee, made a shot from the top of the key at the buzzer to give the Los Angeles Clippers a 100-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Nowitzki, the All-Star forward of the Mavericks who missed five games with a sprained ankle, scored nine points to six for the 36-year-old Rice. But Rice's shot won the game for the Clippers after they trailed by as many as 22 points and had not led since a 5-4 advantage in the first quarter. "Rice makes good decisions and the right plays for us when he's out there," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "When the ball got to him, that was as much as I could hope for." The Mavericks had a chance to take a three-point lead with 12 seconds left, but Steve Nash - a career 89 percent foul shooter - missed a pair of free throws to cap a frustrating night. Nash shot just 2-of-12 from the field and 1-of-3 from the line. "I blame myself. This loss is my fault," Nash said. "I just didn't have a good game." Mavericks coach Don Nelson was more forgiving of his point guard. "I've never seen (Nash) do that before in his career," he said. "His game wasn't right all night." Elton Brand missed a fadeaway jumper and Corey Maggette missed a tip attempt. Dallas guard Michael Finley slapped the ball away from the rim but right to an open Rice, who buried a 20-footer as the horn sounded. "It felt great," Rice said. "That one did catch me right in rhythm. We had some time on the clock and fortunately things worked out in our favor. I like catching the ball right in rhythm, and the ball rolled out of the pile and I was there to pick it up in rhythm and stroke it." Maggette returned after spraining his ankle in the second quarter and led the Clippers with 30 points. Finley scored a season-high 38 points for Dallas. "I'm a little sore, but I wanted to win," Maggette said. "I was running out there purely on adrenaline. It started to loosen up there a little bit, then I didn't feel the pain." Chris Wilcox tied a career high with 21 points for the Clippers, scoring eight in the fourth quarter. He had six during an 8-2 surge that tied it, 98-98, with 1:26 left. Antoine Walker made 1-of-2 free throws to put the Mavericks ahead, but they had their five-game winning streak against the Clippers end. Dallas faces a much tougher task when it visits Staples Center again Friday to face the Lakers, who have won 25 straight home games against the Mavericks.
