Game StoryPHOENIX (Ticker) -- A change in coaches did not produce a change in results for the Phoenix Suns. Baron Davis scored 14 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter as the New Orleans Hornets held on for a 111-101 victory over the Suns, who have lost four in a row. Phoenix fired coach Frank Johnson on Wednesday, replacing him with assistant Mike D'Antoni. The Suns jumped out to an early 11-point lead in D'Antoni's debut that disappeared quickly as the Hornets took control. "We knew they respond and play with emotion," New Orleans coach Tim Floyd said. "It is a natural thing and it happens every time a new coach comes in. We just played solid and didn't try to catch up in one possession." New Orleans led by as many as 16 points in the second quarter, but Phoenix used an 8-0 run to pull within 98-94 at the 3 1/2-minute mark. Shawn Marion made consecutive 3-pointers and Stephon Marbury followed with a layup but missed two crucial free throws with three minutes to go. He missed all five of his free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter, finishing 3-of-8 from the line. "Right now, we are in a funk and we just have to play out of it," Marbury said. "(The Hornets) came down and made their shots towards the end. We missed some free throws, I missed some." David Wesley responded with a 3-pointer 22 seconds later and split two free throws with 1:51 left. Davis followed his own miss for a 104-96 lead with 49 seconds remaining, typifying New Orleans' dominance on the boards. "We knew they would come out with (a run) and we had to withstand it," Davis said. "We got that lead and had to sustain it, and we did. We never let them take that lead from us and get back that momentum." Jamaal Magloire had 14 rebounds to lead the Hornets to a 40-25 advantage on the glass. They had 12 offensive boards and scored 19 second-chance points, compared to none for the Suns. Marion finished with a season-high 31 points and Marbury had 24 for Phoenix, which is 0-4 since forward Amare Stoudemire went down with a sprained ankle. "We are in a little bit of a downhill spiral and we don't have that swagger yet," D'Antoni said. "That will only come with wins and playing hard. We had some opportunities late and didn't convert. The big thing is we will have to find the energy and the willpower to hang in there." The Suns shot 54 percent (40-of-74) from the floor, including 9-of-17 from 3-point range, but allowed a season high in points.
