Game Story

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- One of the old pros on the Chicago Bulls' bench showed the youngsters how it's done. Kendall Gill scored 27 of his season-high 29 points in the second half as the Bulls rolled to a 102-88 victory over the Orlando Magic, posting consecutive wins for the first time this season. Rookie Kirk Hinrich also had his best scoring night of the season, posting 21 points before he fouled out. But the 35-year-old Gill stole the show by shooting 12-of-13 from the field after halftime. "You think everything you throw up will go in," Gill said. "I guess I was in the zone." Gill made all seven of his shots in the third quarter, including a 17-footer with 4:45 left that put Chicago ahead to stay at 58-57. It was part of a 29-12 run that opened a 75-65 lead entering the final period. "(Gill) really picked us up," Bulls coach Scott Skiles said. "He got us going, knocked down a couple of shots. ... The fact that Kendall got hot really took the pressure off the rest of us. We were able to relax a little bit and execute better." Hinrich contributed 10 assists for his first career double-double and received a standing ovation when he left the game. "I feel more comfortable," Hinrich said. "I'm getting on a roll and I'm more confident. As we start playing the way we are, my confidence is going to get a lot better." Drew Gooden scored eight of his 20 points in the fourth quarter but could not get Orlando any closer than 84-76 with 7:37 left. Tracy McGrady led the Magic with 26 points but just eight after halftime, when he shot 3-of-12. "We got a little selfish out there tonight," said McGrady, who missed all three of his shots in the fourth quarter. "I think it's something the coaches need to address. It's a problem. Why do you think we lost 19 in a row?" Since their franchise-record skid, the Magic had won three out of four games. But they allowed 60 points in the second half. "I thought when we got the lead there in the third quarter, we let up and got lax with our execution," Magic coach Johnny Davis said. "Anytime you're on the road and get a team down like this, you need to take care of it then. We didn't and let them get back in it and then they took control of the game."
