Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Bobby Simmons scored a career-high 20 points to lead five players in double figures as the Los Angeles Clippers extended their winning streak to four games with a 93-83 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. A third-year swingman who had averaged 3.8 points in two seasons with Washington, Simmons scored 16 points in the first half as the Clippers took a 50-38 advantage into the locker room. In 29 minutes, Simmons made 7-of-12 shots as he reached double figures for the fourth time this season. His career night helped ease some of the scoring load from Elton Brand, who collected 15 points and a season-high 16 rebounds. "I was concentrating more and pretty much just not trying to play under the basket all the time," Simmons said. "You have to make outside shots when you're open. That's one thing I did at the shootaround. Today I took a lot more attempts up at the basket." Simmons played effectively as Brand picked up two quick fouls and helped Los Angeles keep it close before scoring the final five points of a 12-0 run midway through the second. "He played great," Brand said. "He played great all the way down to the end. You know that's what we need coming off the bench." The Clippers shot just 39.5 percent (33-of-81) but were able to build an 84-63 lead with 6 1/2 minutes remaining. Los Angeles missed its final six shots and had to seal the win at the foul line. Playing their third game in four nights, the Bucks shot just as poorly as the Clippers and were held below 85 points for just the second time this season. They got poor nights from Tim Thomas, Joe Smith and Michael Redd. "It was tough for us tonight," Milwaukee coach Terry Porter said. "We just couldn't get it going. Overall it was just a tough night. Maybe our schedule just caught up with us tonight but we just didn't have any spark." Los Angeles had its worst shooting night during this winning streak. The Clippers had shot 50 percent in their last three games but compensated for the sub-par shooting in other areas, holding a 60-42 edge on the glass. "Defensively tonight, we did what we wanted to do be defending well and controlling the boards," said Los Angeles coach Mike Dunleavy, whose team has allowed an average of 88.2 points during the winning streak. "That is the formula we talked about since the first day of training camp. Those are the things that we want to do. Even on the nights that you don't shoot the ball well, you can still win."
