Game Story

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Hawks didn't stop their losing streak because they couldn't stop Keith Van Horn. Van Horn scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and Allan Houston also scored 20 as the New York Knicks rallied for a 103-92 victory over the Hawks. Atlanta has lost seven consecutive games and eight in a row on the road, continuing their worst stretch of the season after Van Horn was unshakable down the stretch. New York took the lead for good in the third quarter and had an 84-78 lead midway through the fourth, when Van Horn caught fire. He scored 11 straight points to spark a decisive 13-2 run. "I always feel comfortable taking big shots," Van Horn said. "I found myself spotting up and making my shots. It's all about a win and I want to do everything to win." Van Horn made three consecutive shots from the arc and a another jumper with his foot on the 3-point line. He capped the stretch by assisting on a dunk by Antonio McDyess that gave the Knicks their largest lead at 97-80. "I've never seen him so assertive in wanting the ball," New York coach Don Chaney said. "I would just like to see him that way all the time. He wanted the ball, he delivered, that's what it's all about." "Our intensity was there in the second half and Keith got hot," Houston said. "It was fun to see Keith shoot so good with hands in his face. He pulled it out for us." Van Horn made 7-of-9 shots and McDyess 9-of-14 as the Knicks shot 54 percent (40-of-74), including 9-of-16 from 3-point range. "We lost focus of the game and they took over," Atlanta guard Jason Terry said. "Keith Van Horn went hot and went 7-for-9 and I know he has never gone 7-for-9 like he did tonight." McDyess had his best game as a Knick with 19 points and 10 rebounds as New York won for just the third time in 11 games. Atlanta has lost eight straight visits to New York dating to March 22, 1999, the last year the Hawks made the playoffs. Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 20 points and nine rebounds and Terry and Stephen Jackson each scored 18 for Atlanta, which has lost 10 of 11 games in December. Atlanta had a 61-54 edge midway through the third quarter before New York reeled off 15 consecutive points to take the lead for good. Houston buried a 3-pointer and a jumper before Van Horn tied it at 61-61 on a hook shot with 5:24 left. Kurt Thomas followed with consecutive jumpers to give the Knicks the lead for good. Van Horn and Frank Williams each made a pair of free throws for a 69-61 cushion. "We got off to a good start to take a good lead and then they made their run and we didn't make plays to get back into the game," Atlanta coach Terry Stotts said. "The offense didn't make shots and the plays we needed, we didn't execute."
