Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Tracy McGrady shook off a hostile crowd to score 29 points and lead the resurgent Orlando Magic to a 104-93 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Juwan Howard scored 11 of his 20 points in the third quarter for Orlando, which has won a season-high three straight games. The Magic have won six of their last eight games after a 19-game losing streak. McGrady, who played his first three NBA seasons in Toronto, shot 12-of-27 from the field and made just 1-of-8 3-pointers and was constantly booed by the Toronto crowd. "They ought to be getting tired," McGrady said of the jeering fans. "Every time they do that, I told them it just adds fuel to the fire. It brings out the best, not only in me but also in my teammates." McGrady said that he felt the booing came from respect and the fact that Raptors fans miss him, but quashed any rumors of a return, saying, "it is too cold outside here for me." The game was tied 49-49 at halftime before the Magic outscored the Raptors, 29-22, in the third quarter and never let their lead slip below four points in the fourth. "It was a big victory against a quality opponent," Magic coach Johnny Davis said. "We knew we had our work cut out for us, and we did the things necessary down the stretch to win." The closest Toronto got was 86-82 with 6:59 left on a layup by rookie Chris Bosh, who collected 16 points with 10 rebounds. Donyell Marshall also had a double-double for the Raptors, scoring 19 points with 19 rebounds. "We didn't inspire ourselves to keep going or keep pushing," Bosh said. "Every time they got a second chance, they capitalized." Toronto has lost five of its last six games. "Our play was uninspired and I didn't think we competed like we can," Raptors coach Kevin O'Neill said. "I'm disappointed in the way we played and bottom line is that we have to improve and get better as we move along." All five Raptors starters scored in double figures. Vince Carter scored 17 points but committed five turnovers and took only three shots in the fourth quarter. Drew Gooden scored 14 points with 14 rebounds off the bench for Orlando.
