Game StoryDENVER (Ticker) -- The Houston Rockets were so worried about rookie Carmelo Anthony, they made a hero of Voshon Lenard. Anthony scored 22 of his season-high 37 points in the third quarter and Lenard made three clutch free throws with eight seconds left as the Denver Nuggets rallied for a 95-94 victory over the Rockets. Anthony had the best game of his young career, making 13-of-22 shots, including 5-of-8 3-pointers, and 6-of-11 free throws. He did most of his damage in the third, setting a Pepsi Center record for most points in a quarter as the Nuggets rallied 16 down. "This is the biggest win (of the season), especially to be down by 16 and to win by one," Anthony said. "We fought hard tonight, and other teams will know that we'll fight to the end." Denver forged a 91-91 tie with 68 seconds left after Andre Miller and Earl Boykins made consecutive baskets. Houston's Maurice Taylor responded with a jumper, but Anthony made 1-of-2 free throws at the other end. Steve Francis sank 1-of-2 from the line with 17 seconds to go for a 94-92 edge, but Rockets guard Cuttino Mobley inexplicably fouled Lenard on a 3-point attempt. "It was just kind of freakish with the way the ball got tipped out to Lenard," Mobley said. "I saw Lenard look down at his feet to shoot the three and I went after him to try and contend the shot and just caught him on the wrist." Lenard - a 79 percent free-throw shooter - sank all three attempts to give the Nuggets their only lead of the game. "I at least wanted to make two of the shots to send it into overtime," Lenard said. Taylor missed a jumper from the left baseline at the buzzer as Houston failed to build on Thursday's victory over the league-leading Los Angeles Lakers. "We didn't have any reason to be tired for this game," Taylor said. "I liked the last shot. It's a shot I'll take every day if I get it. It just didn't go in." Miller scored 22 points and Lenard finished with 17 as the Nuggets snapped a five-game losing streak to the Rockets. Taylor finished with 22 points and Mobley added 17 for Houston, which is one of the worst offensive teams in the league but shot 49 percent (37-of-75). "The toughest thing about this loss is losing," Houston coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "Down the stretch, we just weren't good enough. They got transition baskets, they got second chances and we fouled their jump shooters."
