Game StoryPORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- Wesley Person and Jeff McInnis shot down the Minnesota Timberwolves. Person and McInnis each had big games as the Portland Trail Blazers posted a 101-92 victory over the Timberwolves, who had a six-game road winning streak stopped. Acquired from Memphis earlier this month, Person had his best game with the Trail Blazers. The sharpshooter scored 16 of his 20 points in the second quarter and finished 8-of-12 from the field. "It was just one of those nights where I got off to a good start," Person said. "I got a good rhythm, it seemed like every shot I was taking was going in. The basket looked real big tonight." A penetrating point guard, McInnis was just as effective as he scored 21 points, made 9-of-12 shots and handed out eight assists. But he gave credit to Person. "Anytime you've got a shooter like that besides you, it makes it easier," McInnis said. "It makes it easier for me to get to the basket because they couldn't leave Wesley." Zach Randolph battled Kevin Garnett inside and collected 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who built a 61-43 lead at the half before holding off a charge. Garnett fell just shy of a triple-double as he tallied 27 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. "We just didn't have the intensity that we needed tonight," Minnesota guard Sam Cassell said. "They didn't do anything spectacular, just played harder than us. They were the most aggressive team, and the most aggressive team usually wins." The Blazers took the lead for good with a 10-0 run to start the second quarter, capped by two free throws by Person for a 34-26 advantage. Person was just getting started as he followed by drilling a 15-footer. He went 6-of-8 from the floor in the quarter, and his 16-footer 12 seconds before intermission provided an 18-point bulge. "No doubt Wesley changed the game," Trail Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "His shooting in the second quarter was the difference." The Timberwolves battled back in the second half, using a 12-2 run to close the third quarter and pull within 80-74. Trenton Hassell opened the fourth quarter with a basket, but the Timberwolves got no closer. Person answered with a jumper and to trigger a 7-0 surge that McInnis capped with a 17-footer with 6:56 to go, extending the advantage to 87-76. Person also hit a turnaround jumper with 17 seconds remaining after Minnesota pulled within five. Sam Cassell added 23 points and Latrell Sprewell 21 for the Timberwolves, who had a six-game winning streak stopped and lost for just the second time in 11 contests. "We were up, 26-24, at the end of the first quarter, then all of a sudden we're down 18 going into the half, and that's all because they were more aggressive and took it to us in the second quarter," Sprewell said.
