Game Story

SAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- The San Antonio Spurs' winning streak isn't likely to end against a team from the Eastern Conference. Manu Ginobili had 25 points and nine rebounds and Hedo Turkoglu added 12 and a season-high 12 as the Spurs extended their winning streak to 13 games with an 89-74 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. San Antonio has the longest winning streak in the NBA this season, reeling off 13 consecutive victories for the first time since March 1-25, 2002. The Spurs have feasted on Eastern Conference foes, going an NBA-best 12-1, including six wins during the streak. "We match up well vs. teams from the East," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "But it has been our defense that has helped us achieve the record." San Antonio had a 69-65 lead early in the fourth quarter before scoring 11 straight points to pull away. Ginobili, who made a career-high 10 shots, opened the spurt with a basket, buried a fadeaway jumper and made 1-of-2 free throws before his reverse dunk gave the Spurs a 78-65 cushion with 5:25 remaining. Turkoglu finished the decisive stretch with a jumper 28 seconds later and Tony Parker scored nine of his 12 points in the final two minutes to help seal the win. Tim Duncan had 12 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks for San Antonio. But he went scoreless in the second half, going 0-of-6 from the floor and 0-of-6 from the free-throw line. "My hat goes off to Timmy because he's hurting bad," Popovich said. "He sprained his ankle again on the jump ball, believe it or not, to start the game. He had a tough time physically, but he hung in and stayed out there for us." "We took away one of their key offensive weapons in Tim Duncan, but Ginobili and their other shooters really hurt us a lot," Milwaukee coach Terry Porter said. San Antonio shot just 43 percent (33-of-77) from the floor but had a 55-44 rebounding advantage and held an opponent under 80 points for the 14th time this season, remaining unbeaten in those games. Michael Redd scored 22 points to lead the Bucks, who managed just 36 percent (30-of-84) shooting and had a season-high three-game winning streak snapped. "They really are one of the better defensive teams in this league," Redd said. "We didn't pass the ball well against them. You have to do that to be successful against a team like the Spurs."
