Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Jamal Crawford and rookie Kirk Hinrich are giving the Chicago Bulls a bright future. Crawford scored 28 points and Hinrich added 19 as the Bulls snapped the four-game winning steak of the shorthanded New York Knicks with a 104-99 victory. Crawford and Hinrich combined for 14 points in the fourth quarter as Chicago broke a 76-76 tie entering the period. The young backcourt duo had five points in a 12-4 tear that gave the Bulls a 92-86 advantage with 4:12 left. "I love playing with Kirk, he makes things a lot easier on me," said Crawford, who made four 3-pointers. "First in the beginning of the season, he wouldn't shoot. Now he's shooting, (and) he's taken a lot of pressure off of me." Keith Van Horn, who led the Knicks with 25 points, and Charlie Ward drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to pull New York within 98-97 with 43 seconds to go. But Crawford executed a pick-and-roll that resulted in Eddy Curry's 1-of-2 free throws and - after Shandon Anderson missed a potential tying layup - Curry sank two at the line for a 101-97 lead with 27 seconds left. "They hit a big three to get within one, but our outlook is we're still ahead by one," Hinrich said. "If we get good possessions and get a couple of stops, we can win the game. That was the mind-set." The Knicks' best stretch of basketball this season was halted as they played without starting guards Allan Houston and Frank Williams. Anderson and Ward got the starts in their places and finished with 19 and 13 points, respectively. "Even shorthanded, this was an opportunity to win," Knicks coach Don Chaney said. "I thought our defense wasn't as aggressive as it had been in the past." New York led by as many as nine points in the first half, settling for a 53-52 halftime edge. Crawford's outside shooting kept the Bulls afloat, along with a 25-16 rebounding edge at intermission. The Bulls' guards were even more aggressive in the second half, resulting in 12-of-19 free-throw shooting after the break. Chicago also outscored New York on the fast break in the second half, 10-0. "Me and Jamal are really comfortable about what we're doing out there," said Hinrich, who had six assists. "We're comfortable with each other, looking for each other (and) moving when one guy penetrates. We're just playing real well together and the whole team is starting to play well." Chicago won for only the second time in its last nine trips to New York, improving to 5-11 on the road. The Bulls went 3-38 on the road a season ago.
