Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Clippers gave Mike Bibby a chance to win the game and he took it. Bibby found Brad Miller for a key basket, then drilled six free throws in the final minute as the Sacramento Kings posted a 116-109 triumph over the Clippers. Predrag Drobnjak's jumper put the Clippers on top, 105-103, with 2:08 to go, but Peja Stojakovic buried a 3-pointer 13 seconds later to give Sacramento the lead for good. Bibby found Miller for a layup 42 seconds later, pushing the Sacramento edge to 108-105. Los Angeles came up empty on its next possession and opted to foul Bibby immediately. An 83.5 percent free-throw shooter, Bibby made both. Corey Maggette had a layup with 37 seconds remaining and the Clippers employed the same strategy by fouling Bibby, who again made both. Bibby added two free throws with 27 seconds to go, sealing Sacramento's 16th win in the last 17 meetings with the Clippers. Bibby finished with 24 points, going 11-of-12 from the line. The strategy to foul Bibby mystified Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy, who questioned his team's mental approach. "We took fouls not knowing the clock, not knowing the situation of the game," Dunleavy said. "I told the fellas I could care less about losing the game as opposed to just not understanding. ... That's just disappointing. ... I'd be upset if I was coaching an eighth-grade team." "We just committed some fouls and made some stupid mistakes in that last minute," Maggette added. Drobnjak led the Clippers with a season-high 22 points in 24 minutes off the bench. "He gave us a great lift," Dunleavy said. "He came in and played real well for us. He gave us a chance and got us back in the game. He had a great game." Maggette and Quentin Richardson added 21 apiece for the Clippers, who lost guard Marko Jaric to a sprained left foot midway through the third quarter. He did not return and is listed as day-to-day. Sacramento's Doug Christie had 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting and 10 assists. Stojakovic added 21 points as six of the nine Kings who played had at least 10. "It's a good win and a good way to start the new year," Kings coach Rick Adelman said.
