Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Ray Allen again provided late-game heroics for the Seattle SuperSonics. Allen scored 27 of his season-high 42 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as the SuperSonics rallied for a 119-108 triumph over the Portland Trail Blazers. "I wanted the ball in my hands and I'm sure the whole team wanted the ball in my hands," Allen said. "It was just one of those nights, it worked well for us." "That's why we call him 'Big Play Ray,'" Portland forward Zach Randolph said. "It's frustrating, real frustrating. We should have won this game." A three-time All-Star, Allen had seven points in the extra period, when Seattle outscored Portland, 15-4. On Friday, he scored 35 points and outdueled Kobe Bryant as the SuperSonics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 111-109. "I'm still getting to know Ray," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "To see him perform and see what he did tonight, to look at his effort in the Lakers' game ... you know when he is on, he is on." "I've seen him do that before, when I was in Philly," Trail Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "I've seen him make shots like that, and it's not a good feeling." Vladimir Radmanovic added 21 points for Seattle, which has won six of its last eight games. Randolph led Portland with 28 points and 12 rebounds and Damon Stoudamire scored 22 points. But the Trail Blazers have lost three in a row and fell to 1-12 on the road. "We have to take something positive out of this," Cheeks said. "We know we are capable of playing the right way." Coming off their most lopsided loss of the season, Sunday's 130-99 setback to Sacramento, the SuperSonics trailed by as many as 23 points in the third quarter. But Radmanovic nailed three 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, when Seattle used a 23-6 burst to forge a 96-96 tie with 3:20 remaining. "It was a hell of an effort," Radmanovic said. "Everybody who played gave a great effort." A 3-pointer by Allen gave the SuperSonics a 104-102 lead with 19 seconds left, but Stoudamire forced overtime by drilling a jumper with one second remaining. Portland lost, despite a 49-33 rebounding advantage. The SuperSonics overcame that disparity by hitting 15-of-33 3-pointers and shooting 54 percent (45-of-84) overall. Radmanovic was 5-of-8 from the arc and Allen 5-of-12. "Everything that I shot tonight in the second half, I knew it was in, whether I made it or not," Allen said. "Straight up and straight back down, I knew it was going in." Jerome James' alley-oop layup off a pass from Allen put Seattle ahead for good, 106-104, just 14 seconds into overtime. Portland had just one basket in the final four minutes and shot 25 percent (2-of-8) in the extra period. Portland guard Jeff McInnis suffered a cut above his left eye in the fourth quarter after colliding with Randolph. He left with 3:16 remaining and did not return.
