Game StoryEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Suddenly, the New Jersey Nets are showing plenty of fight. Jason Kidd continued his torrid stretch with 32 points as the Nets coasted past the Los Angeles Clippers, 92-75, for their fourth straight victory. The game was highlighted by a nasty incident with 7:08 left in the third quarter when Corey Maggette of the Clippers was fouled hard by Kenyon Martin on a drive to the basket. Magette shoved Martin and the players were ejected after exchanging punches. "That's my teammate and I'll protect him with my life," said New Jersey forward Richard Jefferson, who scored 20 points. "Corey's a good dude and next game, they'll suit it up and there won't be a problem." However, both players are facing an automatic one-game suspension for fighting. Martin developed a reputation for physical play during his second season in 2001-02. "That's Kenyon Martin, he does that," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "He's up 26 points and he does that. I'm not sure it's good or bad. He has a history of doing that." "He grabbed my throat," Magette added. "I think the league wants us to be cautious about things like this, but when someone grabs you, what are you suppose to do? I apologize to my teammates and our organization because I let them down and have to sit out a game." During the season high-tying winning streak, Kidd is averaging 29.0 points per game. He scored a season-high 35 points in Friday's 95-85 victory over the New York Knicks. "I needed to catch up with the other point guards in the league who can score," Kidd joked. "My teammates found me cutting to the basket. It was pretty much a carryover from playing over in the Garden." The Nets took control early, allowing just 28 points on 22.5 percent (9-of-40) shooting in the first half en route to a 23-point lead at intermission. "We dug too big of a hole in the first half," Dunleavy said. "We did a terrible job of taking care of the basketball. We had nine turnovers in the first quarter and 15 for the half. We let them beat us to all the loose balls." Elton Brand and rookie Chris Kaman led the Clippers with just 11 points apiece. Brand also pulled down 16 rebounds, 11 in the first quarter. New Jersey, which also reeled off four in a row from December 5-12, has won 13 of its last 16. "This was the best half we have played this year in terms of defending and offense," New Jersey coach Byron Scott said. Kidd's 3-pointer gave New Jersey a 60-34 lead with 8:32 left in the third quarter and started a stretch in which he scored 14 straight points for the Nets. New Jersey let up in the fourth, allowing the Clippers to close to 79-69 on Glen Rice's jumper with 3:34 remaining, But the Nets put it away with a 7-0 spurt.
