Game StoryNEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- Two days ago, San Antonio Spurs reserve guard Devin Brown was sick to his stomach. On Friday night, he left the New Orleans Hornets with a similar feeling. Brown scored eight of his career-high 10 points in the final five minutes as the Spurs held off a late surge and rolled to their eighth straight road win, a 94-84 victory over the Hornets. Coming off a 10-point game in garbage time of a win over Washington, Brown became ill after eating scallops. He didn't accompany the team on the trip. "I was vomiting, very sick two days ago," he said. "They didn't want me to go on the trip. They wanted me to get some rest. They called me early this morning and asked me how I was feeling. I was feeling a little bit better and wanted to come out (to New Orleans) because lately I've been playing well. "They said, 'We're going to put you on a plane.' I said, 'Fine. Let's go.'" The Hornets cut a 20-point deficit to 81-74 with 5:17 left on a basket by Jamaal Magloire, who had 12 points and 11 rebounds. On the next possession, Brown snared a loose ball and made a tough jumper in the lane. After a 3-pointer by Baron Davis made it 87-79 with 2:15 to go, Brown took a feed from Duncan and put in a reverse layup. He made 3-of-4 free throws to seal the win. "I've worked hard. It's an everyday process," said Brown, who was cut by the Spurs last season and was not part of their championship run. "I'm not done yet. I'm working every day to get better, and things are happening. Shots are going in and I'm making free throws and I'm playing defense. It's just working out for me right now." "He can do a little bit of everything," Spurs guard Tony Parker said. "So if he continues to play like that, he's got a good chance to be in our rotation." Brown was one of seven players in double figures as he helped pick up the slack for Tim Duncan, who totaled 15 points and seven rebounds as he failed to collect his 30th double-double. "I'm excited about having him on the floor and what he brings to us, especially down the stretch when he knocks down those free throws," Duncan said. "He's a good competitor," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He's come into some games during the season and done a pretty good job for us. He's somebody that was real important tonight." The Spurs came in allowing a league-best 83.2 points per game and tightened the defensive screws once again, limiting the Hornets to just 32 percent (31-of-97) from the field. San Antonio has held its last 20 foes below 100 points. Davis had 19 points and 10 assists and Darrell Armstrong scored 16 points off the bench for the Hornets, who came up flat in a test against one of the best in the Western Conference. They are 6-6 against the West, while the Spurs are 14-2 against the East. "They're a great basketball team," Hornets coach Tim Floyd said. "Not a good basketball team, a great basketball team." Duncan's 12 points helped San Antonio to a 49-38 halftime lead. A 3-pointer by Bowen made it 66-46 midway through the third quarter before New Orleans climbed back in it.
