Game Story

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- The Memphis Grizzlies used some hot shooting by James Posey to extend a pair of winning streaks. Posey scored 16 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter as the Grizzlies coasted to their third straight win, 108-93 over the Chicago Bulls. Jason Williams added 20 points and nine assists and Mike Miller and Bonzi Wells had 12 points apiece for Memphis, which also has won three in a row at the Pyramid and five straight at home against Chicago. "We get a lot of easy buckets in our system," Posey said. "The team plays very unselfish and we pass the ball well." The Bulls fell to 0-4 all-time at The Pyramid and have not beaten the Grizzlies on the road since January 27, 1998 at Vancouver, where Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman still ran the court for Chicago. "We felt good, but you know when you're fighting to get back into the game momentum matters," Pippen said. "We got it back for a while in the second half, but they took it again. It's tough when you're in another team's building." The Bulls trailed by as many as 19 points in the second half but climbed within 95-87 when Jamal Crawford hit a 3-pointer with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter. But Posey answered with a 3-pointer a minute later to push the advantage to 98-87 and Chicago got not closer. "When we let them back in the game, we were settling for jump shots," Posey said. "It was tough. We made some good plays and played good defense." Crawford and Jerome Williams scored 13 points apiece, but the Bulls lost for the fourth time in five games. Eddy Curry and Chicago rookie Ronald Dupree each added 12. For the most part, the game was played at a frantic pace. Both teams used good half-court defense to force turnovers and create fast-break opportunities. Chicago committed 11 turnovers in the first half, when Memphis built a 56-42 lead. "We didn't want to turn the ball over and we obviously failed there," Bulls coach Scott Skiles said. "We were in a rhythm offensively early in the game, but then we started throwing the ball all over the gym and they got a lot of deflections and we had to battle back the rest of the night." Antonio Davis split two free throws with 4:43 left in the second quarter to cut Chicago's deficit to 40-39. But the Grizzlies closed the half with a 16-3 run, capped by Jason Williams' buzzer-beater from half-court. Unhappy with the play of his starters, Skiles decided to play his bench for most of the third quarter. The move paid off as the Bulls gradually cut into the deficit. Memphis aided Chicago's comeback by committing 11 of its 18 turnovers after halftime. "We lost control of the game and the second unit came in and played well," Crawford said. "If there was a positive to take from this game, it was our bench." The contest was the Grizzlies' first at home since January 3 after concluding a wacky road trip. Memphis was supposed to play five games on the trek, but the first two were postponed due to poor weather conditions. After losing in regulation on Friday, the Grizzlies went to overtime on Sunday and double-overtime the following day.
