Game StoryPORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- Joe Johnson and Jake Voskuhl came up big when it counted for the Phoenix Suns. Johnson had three clutch baskets late in the fourth quarter and Voskuhl also played well in the final period as the Suns stopped a six-game losing streak with a 105-96 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Trying to secure their first win of 2004, the Suns led virtually throughout against the struggling Trail Blazers, who clawed within 88-84 with just under seven minutes remaining. Johnson made sure the Suns kept the lead as he hit two jumpers and a layup in the final 2:31. Each shot answered a basket by the Trail Blazers. "Like I said earlier, a win is a win," said Johnson, who made 9-of-16 shots. "This could be significant, hopefully. If we play like we can and learn from everything, we will be fine." "Joe did a great job, he did what he was supposed to do," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. Those were the only baskets of the fourth quarter for Johnson, who collected 20 points and handed out seven assists. With Amare Stoudemire battling foul trouble, Voskuhl saw increased minutes in the fourth quarter. He responded by scoring eight of his nine points and providing an interior presence on defense. "Definitely a team effort," said Voskuhl, who had eight rebounds. "If one goes down, another has to step up. It's a team game." Stoudemire had his second straight big game as he scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to go with six of the Suns' 12 steals. Shawn Marion added 20 points for the Suns, who snapped their losing streak by shooting an impressive 55 percent (44-of-80). They shot 57 percent (24-of-42) in the first half in building a 56-47 lead. Zach Randolph and Ruben Patterson each scored 21 points for Portland, which lost for the seventh time in eight games. "We were climbing uphill all game," Trail Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "The whole game, we were struggling. We never really got over that hump." Portland again played without volatile forward Rasheed Wallace, who missed his fourth straight game with a sprained ankle. Rookie Leandro Barbosa scored half of his 16 points in the first quarter, when the Suns shot 64 percent (14-of-22) and opened a 35-24 lead. "Our defense (stunk) real bad," Patterson said. "Guys getting easy layups. Ain't nobody talkin, and it's frustrating. We gotta go out and play. We have a job, make a helluva lotta money. We just gotta go out and get after it." After the Trail Blazers pulled within three points early in the second quarter, Barbosa capped a 10-2 run with a layup to rebuilt the lead to double digits.
