Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Erick Dampier had the best rebounding game of his career to help the Golden State Warriors get their fourth straight home win against the Utah Jazz. Dampier had 18 points and a career-high 24 rebounds as the Warriors cruised to a 101-85 victory over the shorthanded Jazz. "Whenever I am on the floor I am trying to help the team any way I can, getting rebounds, blocking shots or trying to score," Dampier said. "I just try to have a good game on both ends of the floor." Reserve guard Calbert Cheaney added 20 points off the bench and Jason Richardson had 18 as the Warriors won for just the third time in their last 13 games. "If we can start putting together some wins, we can get ourselves back into a playoff spot," Warriors forward Clifford Robinson said. "We just need a streak of wins, not a game here and a game there." Dampier had his third 20-plus rebound game of the season. He set his previous career high of 23 on December 2, 2003 against the Los Angeles Lakers. "He (Dampier) was just all over the boards tonight," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "That was one of the things that we could not handle tonight. Some nights you can't get the job done, and that is why you lose." Already without forwards Matt Harpring and Andrei Kirilenko, the Jazz also played without center Greg Ostertag, who was suspended one game for fighting. The 6-11 Dampier took full advantage, controlling the backboards. Raja Bell scored a career-high 25 points for Utah, which has lost two in a row. Rookie guards Maurice Williams and Raul Lopez scored 15 and 14. Kirilenko sat out the game with a sprained right ankle while Harpring will likely miss the rest of the season to recover from right knee surgery. "We are just waiting for some guys to get healthy," Sloan said. "If we don't play harder, we won't make the playoffs. I said in the beginning that if we play hard every night, we should make the playoffs." Golden State overpowered Utah inside, outrebounding them 45-31. The Warriors also held a 48-32 scoring advantage in the paint. The Jazz pulled to within 46-44 with 9:37 left in the third quarter. But Golden State responded with a 20-8 run, building a 66-52 lead with 3:01 remaining in the third quarter. "We struggled early in the second quarter against their zone, but later it opened up a lot of jump shots for us," Warriors coach Eric Musselman said. "I am really happy with the 3-point shots. Tonight offensively, we had some really good execution."
