Game Story

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- It took a while, but Voshon Lenard and the Denver Nuggets finally were able to get a road win against the Utah Jazz. Lenard scored 17 points as the Nuggets cruised to a 96-75 rout of the shorthanded Jazz, snapping a 14-game losing streak at the Delta Center. "I thought everybody shot the ball well tonight," Lenard said. "We moved the ball, we got some assists. That's one of the main things we've really been talking about is moving the ball and hitting open guys." The Nuggets had six players in double figures as Earl Boykins added 15 points, rookie Carmelo Anthony had 14 and Camby contributed 12. They helped Denver win in Utah for the first time since December 7, 1995. "We came in here from start to finish and everybody contributed and everybody played well," Denver center Marcus Camby added. "It's been a long time since the Nuggets have won in this building." Utah was without starting forward Andrei Kirilenko, who missed his second straight game with a sprained right ankle. The Jazz also were forced to play most of the game without Raja Bell, who scored one point before he was ejected at the end of the first quarter for kicking a ball into the stands. "I kind of lost my cool out there," Bell said. "I have a history with most of these referees and I just lost my cool." Rookie Maurice Williams scored a season-high 20 points and Raul Lopez contributed 13 for the Jazz, who have lost a season-high three straight. "I just want to go out and play hard, just be aggressive," Williams said. "Just try to make things happen on the defensive end, offensively, just happens. I just let that happen, but defensively, that's where I want my attention to be." DeShawn Stevenson made 1-of-2 free throws to get Utah within 34-28 with 5:41 left in the second quarter. But Denver closed the period with a 16-8 run to build a 50-36 halftime advantage. The Jazz got just 12 points from its starting frontcourt as Michael Ruffin had two points to go with 12 rebounds. "It just didn't work out for us today. Those things happen," Williams said. "We will just have to see how we bounce back from this." Forward Aleksandar Pavlovic scored six points on 1-of-11 shooting while Greg Ostertag had two points in his return to the lineup for Utah. Ostertag served a one-game suspension Tuesday for throwing a punch against Cleveland. Utah shot 36 percent (25-of-70) and made 23-of-34 free throws. The Nuggets overcame 17 turnovers by shooting 51 percent (36-of-71) from the field and used an 8-0 spurt midway through the fourth quarter to build its largest lead, 92-66. "I got a great feeling about this team," Anthony said. "Hopefully, we can continue what we're doing and keep winning. And hopefully, ya'll can see us in the playoffs." "It was a fun game," Denver guard Andre Miller added. "It was a fun crowd, but we didn't let them get into it, so I think that was one of the keys to the win." Miller made his Delta Center debut as a member of the Nuggets. The Jazz pursued the former University of Utah star as a free agent last summer but were unable to sign him. Miller got a mixed reaction from the crowd during pregame introductions and scored 10 points.
