Game StoryNEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- On the verge of running out of players, the New Orleans Hornets ran out of gas. The shorthanded Hornets faded fast in the second half of a 92-86 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, who got 23 points from Glenn Robinson and snapped a three-game losing streak. Already without forward Jamal Mashburn, the Hornets also played without starting guards Baron Davis (ankle) and David Wesley (toe) and rookie forward David West (knee). It marked the first time Mashburn, Davis and Wesley missed the same game. Dressing just nine players, they started three reserves and were forced to play their subs extra minutes. And that was a factor in the second half. After grabbing a 51-46 halftime advantage, the Hornets made just 6-of-20 shots in the third quarter, when they were held to 14 points and gave away the lead. "We're not making excuses, but we wish we had a couple of more bodies," said Hornets guard Steve Smith, who scored 12 points but missed nine of his last 10 shots. In the final period, New Orleans closed to 80-77 with 6:32 remaining on a 3-pointer by Darrell Armstrong, who started for Davis and scored a season-high 29 points. But the Hornets missed nine of their next 11 shots, absorbing their sixth loss in seven games. "My biggest concern is playing Darrell 42 minutes a game because I don't want him to break down," Hornets coach Tim Floyd said. "I do hope that we get some guys back here pretty quick." "Even though we were winded in the third quarter, we're in the NBA and still have to go out and win games," said Armstrong, who made just 3-of-13 3-pointers. "We have good talent in here." Robinson remained red-hot, making 11-of-18 shots. In his last four games, he is averaging 26 points on 62 percent shooting as he continues to ease the offensive burden on NBA scoring leader Allen Iverson. "The last four or five (games), I've been feeling it," Robinson said. "I really haven't needed many touches as I normally get. Sixteen, 18 shots is enough to do a lot." "That's what we need," Iverson said. "He started off kind of slow (this season), but now I think he's found his rhythm. That's big for us because that's going to help us in the long run." Iverson scored eight of his 22 points in the fourth quarter for Philadelphia, which shot just under 49 percent (35-of-72), its best showing on the road this season. Robinson scored 12 points in the third quarter, when the Sixers went to a 2-3 zone and confounded the Hornets. "The zone defense changed the tempo of the game in the second half," Sixers coach Randy Ayers said. "We got some easy baskets in transition." Philadelphia saw a nine-point lead cut to three before Iverson beat the defense downcourt for a layup and made two free throws for an 84-77 bulge with 5:12 to go. He added two free throws for an 88-81 advantage with 1:35 to play.
