Game Story

CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Peja Stojakovic showed the Cleveland Cavaliers why he's one of the NBA's best shooters. Stojakovic caught fire in the second half, when he scored 27 of his 37 points, as the Sacramento Kings opened a six-game road trip with a 95-89 victory over the Cavaliers. After netting 10 points in the first quarter and going scoreless in the second, Stojakovic was a different player in the second half. The sharpshooter poured in 20 points in third quarter, making 7-of-9 shots and all four of his 3-point attempts. "In the third quarter, we did a good job," Stojakovic said. "We were aggressive on the offensive end." "When (Peja) gets its going, there's not too many guys who can shoot the ball like he can," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. Stojakovic finished 13-of-25 from the field, including 6-of-9 from the arc, as he fell four points shy of matching a season high. He also had 10 rebounds in 45 minutes. Vlade Divac collected 13 points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Kings, who won for the 10th time in 12 games. Dajuan Wagner netted a season-high 20 points for Cleveland, which played its second straight game without injured rookie LeBron James. "We played as hard as we could and as well as we could under the circumstances," Cleveland coach Paul Silas said. "I'm really proud of the way the guys came through. A lesser team would have gotten beat by 49 tonight." Stojakovic scored the first five points in a 13-2 run over the final 2:48 of the third quarter, giving the Kings a 77-69 advantage. "It was contested. (Stojakovic) just hit some big shots," Wagner said. "One time, (Eric Williams) hit him in the elbow and he still made the shot. He was in his face." Sparked by Stojakovic, the Kings shot a blistering 74 percent (14-of-19) in the third quarter after shooting 36 percent (16-of-44) in the opening half. The Cavaliers battled back in the fourth quarter, pulling within 89-87 with 1:13 remaining on two free throws by Wagner. Divac missed two foul shots with 57 seconds left, but Brad Miller grabbed the rebound on the second miss and converted a layup. Carlos Boozer made two free throws with 39 seconds left for the Cavs before Mike Bibby used a nifty crossover dribble to set up Divac for layup, making it 93-89 with 24 seconds to go. "I know they like to jump the pick-and-roll hard, so I was going to try to get away from it and make something happen," Bibby said. Bibby had 12 points and Doug Christie and Bobby Jackson 11 each for Sacramento, which improved to 9-7 on the road. The Kings are an NBA-best 21-3 at home. Williams contributed 18 points and Boozer had 15 and 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers.
