Game Story

SALT LAKE CITY (Ticker) -- The Utah Jazz welcomed back Andrei Kirilenko and withstood a fourth quarter rally by the Los Angeles Clippers to snap a season-high five-game losing streak. Carlos Arroyo scored 20 points while Greg Ostertag added 18 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks to lead Utah to a 98-93 victory. "We showed character, a lot of character tonight," Arroyo said. "And we showed even when things are going not very nice, we come up and compete and try to do our best." Kirilenko had 13 points in his return after missing the previous four games with a sprained left ankle. "It feels good," Kirilenko said. "It (ankle) doesn't bother me at all. Maybe sometimes in defense... I'm happy, you know, I'm happy because right now we get back on the winning road." The Clippers went on a 12-2 run to cut the Jazz lead to 86-85 with 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter. But Los Angeles got no closer as Utah made 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute and snapped a three-game home losing streak. Elton Brand had 18 points for Los Angeles, which lost its third straight road game. Corey Maggette and Eddie House added 15 points apiece. "We had a couple opportunities defensively down at our end of the floor," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "Some loose balls got away from us, we had a turnover and they got it back, and opportunity baskets got away from us. Down the stretch we had one turnover too many for us." Utah avoided consecutive losses to the Clippers for the first time since 1987. The Jazz improved to 2-1 against the Clippers this season. Los Angeles won the previous meeting, 93-82, on Friday. Utah overcame 49 percent (36-of-73) shooting by the Clippers by outrebounding them 45-34 and making 32 free throws. "We thought we should have gotten some more fouls out there," Maggette said. "But there's nothing we can do about it. We can complain but we won't get any calls anyway." House played just seven minutes and scored all of his points in the fourth quarter to spark the Clippers' comeback. He hit two 3-pointers in the final minute, the second cut the Jazz lead to 96-93 with six seconds to go. But Arroyo hit two free throws to cap the scoring. "Whatever time I get, I just try to get involved in whatever way," House said. "Just hitting shots like tonight or playing (defense) or getting other people involved in the game. Whatever I just need to have an impact on the game somehow, and tonight it was making shots." Jazz rookie guard Maurice Williams sat out the game with a sprained right ankle.
