Game Story

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings beat the Houston 
Rockets at their own game.

Relying on defense instead of their usual run-and-gun style, the
Kings shut down the Rockets for most of the fourth quarter and
rallied for a 99-94 victory in the second leg of their "Texas
Triangle."

Mike Bibby scored a season-high 28 points and Bobby Jackson
added 21 off the bench for the Kings, who lead the NBA in
scoring at nearly 105 points per game.  They were up against the
Rockets, who allow a league-best 83.5 points per contest.

Sacramento allowed Houston to shoot better than 55 percent from
the field over the first three quarters and trailed, 76-71,
entering the final period.  But the Kings held the Rockets
without a basket for 4 1/2 minutes, taking control with a 12-1
surge.

"We're trying hard to improve on that and I think we're getting
better at it," Bibby said.  "We got stops toward the end and
that was the difference. If we keep playing defense like that
we're going to be hard to stop. We've got to trust each other
out there."

In the fourth quarter, the Kings held the Rockets to 7-of-22
shooting and forced six turnovers.  Three of Houston's baskets
came in the final 32 seconds after Sacramento had sealed
matters.

"We worked on it the last two days in practice," Kings coach
Rick Adelman said.  "It's all about having five guys active with
active hands. We got a lot of deflections in the fourth
quarter. It's all about helping each other out defensively."

Sacramento forced 7-5 center Yao Ming into five turnovers and
held Steve Francis to seven points on 3-of-17 shooting.

"I think we tried to make them make the extra pass," Kings
forward Peja Stojakovic said.  "We clogged the paint and make
them shoot threes.  Our defense was our key. Every time Yao got
the ball, we made him put the ball on the floor and would run
two or three guys at him."

"When you get a combination of turnovers and me not scoring,
it's going to be tough," Francis said.

Stojakovic had 19 points and nine boards for the Kings, who
improved to 2-2 on their six-game road trip.  They lost at
Dallas on Sunday and visit San Antonio on Thursday.

"This is a really good win for us on a long trip," Adelman said.
"We stayed with it and were active defensively in the second
half.  This is the type of win that makes a trip."

Former King Jimmy Jackson made his first 10 shots and scored a
season-high 28 points for the Rockets, who have lost two in a
row following a three-game winning streak.  Jackson played with
Sacramento last season but signed with Houston during the
offseason.

"The 28 points don't mean a thing to me without the win," he
said. "I have friends over there who will probably be friends
for life, but tonight we just wanted to win after losing in
Miami.  All the points are just numbers to me."

An alley-oop pass from Francis, who had 13 assists, to Kelvin
Cato gave Houston an 83-80 lead with seven minutes to go.  But
Cato hung on the rim and slapped the backboard for a technical
foul.

After Stojakovic's free throw, Bibby made a 3-pointer and jumper
and Brad Miller hit two free throws, a follow shot and a jumper
for a 92-84 lead with 3 1/2 minutes left.  Miller scored 16
points.

The Rockets never had a chance to tie again.  They committed 24
turnovers while forcing only 10, disappointing coach Jeff Van
Gundy.

"A 14-turnover differential is basically saying, 'All right,
we're spotting Sacramento an 18-20-point advantage; now go beat
them,'" he said.  "We're making the same repetitive mistakes,
which is really debilitating."
