Game StoryPORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- Utah Jazz point guard Carlos Arroyo put on a clinic on how to close out a game. Arroyo scored 14 of his 20 points in the final three minutes as the Jazz defeated the shorthanded Portland Trail Blazers, 86-81, to climb back to the .500 mark. A three-year veteran in his first season as starter, Arroyo made a pair of tiebreaking shots before sinking 10-of-10 free throws as he outplayed Damon Stoudamire down the stretch. All-Star Andrei Kirilenko scored 20 points and made a big block in the final two minutes for the Jazz (26-26), who have won two in a row on the road following a four-game slide. "I just did what I had to do in the fourth quarter," Arroyo said. "It was a good win on the road, but we have another tough one tomorrow in Minnesota." One day after sending temperamental Rasheed Wallace to Atlanta in a five-player deal, Portland absorbed its eighth loss in its last 10 meetings with Utah. The Trail Blazers acquired forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim, center Theo Ratliff and guard Dan Dickau, who will join the team Wednesday. "We'll have the whole team here tomorrow and we'll be fine," said forward Zach Randolph, who scored 16 points on just 6-of-15 shooting. Portland was left with just nine players, including recent reserve signees Omar Cook and Eddie Gill. It got just three points from its bench. "I was worried before the game that this often happens after a trade when you're short of manpower," Portland coach Maurice Cheeks said. "With Rasheed gone, there was an option missing." Trailing by 10 points early in the fourth quarter, the Trail Blazers pulled into a 71-71 tie with 2:58 to play on a 3-pointer by Stoudamire, who had 18 points and seven assists. Arroyo responded with a driving hoop. After Darius Miles tied it again, Arroyo made a jumper at the 2:02 mark to give Utah the lead for good. On the next possession, Kirilenko - one of the most active defenders in the NBA - stood his ground against the heavier Randolph and blocked his turnaround jumper. Arroyo began his string of free throws, making it 77-73 with 1:28 left. "I just stayed on my feet until he spun into the key," Kirilenko said. "He's a great player and very tough to defend." "Sometimes you get yourself in trouble trying to block shots," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "Andre is a young player, tries to block shots, then gives up layups." Miles had a driving dunk, but Arroyo made two from the line, then two more after Stoudamire missed a 3-pointer for an 81-75 bulge with 20 seconds to go. "You better make your free throws," Sloan said. "He did that. He did a terrific job making all of them." DeShawn Stevenson scored 12 points for the Jazz, who held a 41-34 advantage on the glass. Derek Anderson scored 21 points and Miles added 19 for the Trail Blazers. "Tonight's game was an example of how you can play hard and compete and just don't have enough scoring power to win it," Cheeks said.
