Game Story

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- It was not a double-digit victory, but Jason Kidd and the New Jersey Nets will take it. Kidd collected 15 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for his 58th career triple-double as the Nets matched a team record with their 11th straight victory, edging the Atlanta Hawks, 98-92. Richard Jefferson scored 24 points and Kenyon Martin added 21 and 10 rebounds for the Nets, who set an NBA record for most consecutive victories following a five-game losing streak and helped Lawrence Frank become the first coach in league history to win his first 10 games. "We are happy we got the win," Frank said. "We're not looking to break records necessarily, we're just looking to win every single game we play, and at the end of the day, we're committed to improving daily. All those milestones and records are in the past; they'll take care of themselves." "Guys are doing an excellent job of focusing on playing it day by day," Martin said. "We hope to keep this going." The Nets, who failed to become the first team to win 11 straight games by double figures, were tied with the lowly Hawks, 87-87, before Rodney Rogers sank a pair of free throws with 2:50 remaining. Martin and Kerry Kittles each scored off offensive rebounds to make it 93-87 with 1:14 left. Atlanta got no closer than four points thereafter. The Nets received a big boost off the bench in the fourth quarter from Rogers, who scored all 10 of his points in the final 12 minutes. "You have to keep playing," Rogers said. "It's a long game. You just have to keep going after it, which is what I did." Stephen Jackson scored 25 points and Jason Terry added 22 for the Hawks, who received 20 points from Rasheed Wallace in his first and perhaps only game with the team. A highly prized forward, the temperamental Wallace is rumored to be possibly be dealt to a playoff contender before Thursday's trade deadline. "I was out there trying to read my new teammates," said Wallace, who made just 8-of-24 shots. "My name has been in trade talks before, so I'm not really that stressed about it. If it happens, it happens; either way, I still have game and that's the bottom line." "Even though he didn't shoot the ball well, I think you felt his presence more than anything else," Hawks coach Terry Stotts said. "You know he was on the court, he was positive in the huddles and I thought the guys fed off his energy. He had a really positive impact on the court." Jefferson said the Nets had difficulty preparing for the new-look Hawks, who shot 12-of-26 from the arc. "They have a new team and (it) was a tough scouting report," Jefferson said. "It's tough and they're a very talented team. They shot a ridiculous percentage from the 3-point line, which also made it tough." Kidd, who recorded his eighth triple-double of the season to move within one of tying Larry Bird for fourth on the all-time list, swished a shot from midcourt at the third-quarter buzzer to tie the game at 68.
