Game StoryCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- Rookie LeBron James kept the Cleveland Cavaliers afloat through a rough start, allowing them to provide a fantastic finish. James scored 21 points as the Cavaliers rallied from a 25-point deficit and matched a season high with their third straight win, 104-100 over the New Orleans Hornets. New Orleans looked unstoppable early as Baron Davis and Jamal Mashburn each scored 14 points en route to a 37-16 lead after one quarter. Davis fed rookie David West for a dunk and a 47-22 cushion with 7:45 left in the first half. James had 13 points by halftime, helping Cleveland pull within 59-45 at the break. Fellow rookie Jason Kapono scored a season-high 19 points and helped spark a huge second half for the Cavaliers. "I'm so happy for Kap because he didn't play for a long, long stretch of time, but after practice he's there shooting with K.O. (Kevin Ollie), keeping his game sharp, and now it's paying off," said Cavaliers coach Paul Silas, who was fired by the Hornets last May. "He's one of the best shooters I've ever seen." James assisted on Carlos Boozer's basket that gave Cleveland the lead for good at 96-94 with 2:13 remaining. After Boozer and Davis exchanged one foul shot apiece, James knifed through the defense for a layup and a four-point lead. Davis airballed a 3-pointer on New Orleans' next possession and Boozer dunked off a nifty pass from Zydrunas Ilgauskas for a 101-95 cushion with 27 seconds to go. "Tony Battie really put us out there and said that we were just making excuses to lose 'cause we had won two games in a row and it was a back-to-back night," said James, who scored 22 points in Sunday's win at New York. "He put it out there and he really motivated us." Boozer led Cleveland with 24 points, 15 in the second half. Kapono made all five of his 3-point shots, giving the Cavaliers a boost off the bench. Kapono made a pair of 3-pointers in a 21-10 tear that pulled Cleveland within 14 points at halftime. The Hornets shot 35 percent (6-of-17) in a dismal third-quarter effort and saw their lead shrink to 77-73 heading into the fourth. "I thought we hurt ourselves with some turnovers and it started in the second quarter," Hornets coach Tim Floyd said. "And it continued. We were up seven late in the third and we turned it over three consecutive trips down the floor that led to easy baskets." Davis and Mashburn each made their first six shots, but the duo combined to hit only 8-of-33 after the first quarter. Davis poured in 34 points to lead the Hornets and Mashburn finished with 23.
