Game StoryMEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- It's no coincidence that James Posey's first season with the Memphis Grizzlies is the best in team history. Posey scored 13 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and Pau Gasol overcame a broken nose to add 25 points as the Grizzlies extended their winning streak to five games with a 109-106 victory over the Denver Nuggets. Memphis signed Posey as a free agent on July 24 and is on pace to shatter every record in the franchise's short history. The Grizzlies won a team-record 10 games in January and have won nine of their first 10 in February. Posey has been a major part of the February success, averaging 16.5 points on 63 percent shooting (49-of-77) for the month. He made 6-of-9 shots from the floor and 8-of-9 free throws against Denver as Memphis moved 12 games over .500 for the first time in franchise history. "He had a hell of a game," Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown said. "He's been doing it all year for us." The Nuggets had a 104-100 lead before Posey, who has made 50-of-57 free throws this month, sank a pair from the line with 2:05 remaining. After Denver's Andre Miller made a layup, Posey responded with a three-point play to bring Memphis within 106-105 with 66 seconds to go. "I was just playing basketball and waiting for the right opportunity," Posey said. "I play to the final horn. I just play basketball. Everything I do is basketball related. I'm just a basketball player." "He's great," Gasol said. "He sacrifices himself and he does whatever it takes for that little extra effort. He doesn't think out there, he just plays." Gasol, who remained in the game despite breaking his nose in the second quarter, followed with a layup. Shane Battier blocked rookie Carmelo Anthony's jumper at the other end and Posey secured the rebound before making a pair from the line with 3.9 seconds left. "When Pau got the that layup at the end, it just sucked all the air out of us," Anthony said. "This felt like a playoff game. We left everything we had out there on the court." Denver completed a winless three-game road trip after Voshon Lenard, who scored 21 points, missed a 3-pointer as time expired. Anthony had 26 points and 14 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end, but had his final two shots blocked as the Nuggets went scoreless in the final 81 seconds. Bonzi Wells scored 17 points and Jason Williams and Shane Battier added 10 apiece as the Grizzlies extended the franchise record for wins to 34, including a team-record 22 at home. Memphis shot 50 percent (40-of-80) from the floor, making half of its 14 shots in the final quarter, when the teams exchanged the lead six times. Denver finished at just 42 percent (37-of-87) after going 9-of-28 in the fourth. Earl Boykins scored nine of his 10 points in the last 12 minutes, giving the Nuggets a 104-100 edge with his layup at the 2:21 mark. But Denver missed seven of its final eight shots, four from Andre Miller, who finished with 12 points on 4-of-13 shooting.
