Game Story

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Andrei Kirilenko had two huge baskets in the final 88 seconds of overtime as the Utah Jazz completed a home-and-home sweep of the Seattle SuperSonics with a 93-92 victory. An All-Star for the first time in his career, Kirilenko made the big plays down stretch. His 3-pointer from the left corner with 1:28 remaining gave the Jazz a 91-89 lead. "You have to rotate to the shooter," Seattle coach Nate McMillan said. "You've got to get out and make him shoot the ball. I think two guys may have rotated to the same man and then tried to find Kirilenko in the corner." After Tom Gugliotta missed a runner, his second tip attempt dropped through to make it a four-point game with nine seconds to go. "I was just trying to be active in the last second," Kirilenko said. "Use every available move. At the end of the game, 10 or 15 seconds, if you stay active you can do something and win the game." "He (Kirilenko) was great," Jazz guard Gordan Giricek said. "His last 3-point shot was unbelievable." Kirilenko netted 24 points and Carlos Arroyo 16 for the Jazz, who were coming off Tuesday's 99-86 home win over the SuperSonics. Utah (29-30) has won three of its last four games to climb back within one game of .500. Arroyo made sure the game reached overtime after he sank two free throws with 32 seconds to go, tying the game at 82-82. He had a chance to win the contest in regulation, but missed a runner as time expired. In overtime, the Jazz took advantage of four of the Sonics' 16 turnovers. Seattle also made just 3-of-10 shots in the extra period and allowed Utah to grab five offensive rebounds. "A little bit of everything," McMillan said. "We had a couple of turnovers and we had a couple of open looks when we didn't make our shots. It was there, you just have to make plays." Ray Allen scored 40 points - two shy of his season high - to lead fading Seattle, which lost for the 10th time in 14 games. Allen scored 17 points in the third quarter. His 3-pointer with 10:19 remaining in the final period gave the Sonics a 74-65 lead. He went 13-of-25 from the field, including 6-of-11 from the arc. But the recently acquired Giricek hit a 20-footer and converted two layups to spark a 13-0 run, giving the Jazz a 78-74 lead with under six minutes left. "Giricek had a nice run," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "I was glad to see that. He's only been here a couple of days and doesn't know what we're doing very well. We not a spot-up team like a lot of teams and he handles the ball more than he's used to." Giricek and Raja Bell each scored 12 points for Utah, which shot 45 percent (38-of-84). Seattle shot 39 percent (31-of-79).
