Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Keith Van Horn is used to starting over. He made his first start with the Milwaukee Bucks a successful one. Van Horn poured in a season-high 30 points and Shane Battier missed a potential go-ahead shot in the waning seconds as the Bucks held on for a thrilling 106-104 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Acquired from the New York Knicks on February 15, Van Horn is getting accustomed to fresh starts. He is on his fourth team in the last two years. On Friday, Van Horn was given his first start in his fifth game for his latest team. He responded, scoring nine points in a tight fourth quarter and finishing 11-of-19 from the field. "I'm not concerned with starting and not starting," Van Horn said. "I just want to go out there with whatever minutes I play and help this team win in whatever way that I can. That's my only focus." "He grasps that stuff pretty good and he was a very fast learner and he did a great job picking everything up and being able to contribute and help us," Bucks coach Terry Porter said. "It's been great." Van Horn also drew praise from Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown. "I'm very happy for him because he is a great kid, and he is misunderstood," Brown said. "I think he has found a home here for his style of play. They will find good use for him here because of this style of play, and the people are going to love him." But it was Michael Redd's free throw with 22 seconds left that gave the Bucks a 105-104 edge, the 20th lead change of the night. Battier shot for the win, but his pull-up jumper from the foul line bounced off the back of the rim. Desmond Mason grabbed the rebound and made 1-of-2 foul shots with seven-tenths of a second left to seal it. "It was a great look, a great look," Battier said. "I thought it was good, it felt good. I just had a little bit too much adrenaline in there and left it a little long. I don't mind taking that shot, it was a broken play." Redd scored 19 points and Desmond Mason and Brian Skinner each had 17 for Milwaukee, which won for the 17th time in its last 21 games at home and improved to 22-8 overall at the Bradley Center. A jumper by Mason with 2:18 remaining gave the Bucks a 100-95 lead, but Battier drilled a 3-pointer and James Posey scored inside to tie it with 1:41 to go. Posey scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies, who shot 53 percent (43-of-81) and held a 41-32 rebounding advantage. "We just have to finish game, that's all," said Posey, who is averaging 22.3 points in his last six games. "We block three games off and take it one game at a time. We just need to be more consistent." Milwaukee's Damon Jones handed out 12 assists in replacing rookie T.J. Ford, who suffered a spinal cord injury in Tuesday's loss to Minnesota. Memphis has lost two straight following a five-game winning streak.
