Game StoryHOUSTON (Ticker) -- Seattle SuperSonics forward Rashard Lewis wasn't exactly given the hometown hero's welcome. He responded with some rude treatment of the Houston Rockets. Lewis shook off a flagrant foul and scored 12 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to lift the SuperSonics to a 97-80 victory over the Rockets that snapped a three-game losing streak. Lewis entered the NBA directly out of Alief-Elsik High School in Houston in 1998. Just 24, he has become one of the best players on the SuperSonics, averaging 18.6 points and 6.9 rebounds while improving his scoring average in each of his first five seasons. With his mother in attendance, Lewis was hacked from behind and knocked to the floor by Rockets forward Maurice Taylor, who was called for a flagrant foul. Lewis kept his cool and sank both free throws, giving Seattle a 73-71 lead with 5:14 left and starting a 12-0 run. "I got more aggressive after the flagrant foul was called," Lewis said. "That woke me up a bit and (ticked) me off. Taylor's foul really made me mad, so I started going to the hole to see what they would do." "I thought a flagrant foul was if you didn't go for the ball and you tried to hurt someone," Taylor said. "The refs are under a lot of pressure to make the 'right' call, though. If that's what it took to fire them up, that's (garbage)." On the ensuing possession, Ray Allen drilled a 3-pointer. Lewis added a free throw, passed out of a double-team to find Vladimir Radmanovic for a 3-pointer that beat the shot clock and capped the burst with a ferocious dunk, drawing a foul. The free throw made it 83-71 with 3:01 to play. "As a unit, we recognized the mismatch," Sonics coach Nate McMillan said. "They had (Kelvin) Cato and Taylor on Rashard, and our guys recognized that mismatch and we took advantage of it. We exploited it down the stretch." "I don't think it's a secret we've had trouble all year when we play against mobile (power forwards)," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "They went smaller and we have trouble guarding the dribble and the pick-and-roll and it leads to having to overcompensate with help, and that opens up the 3-point line and also second shots. It's been our problem all year." Lewis provided an exclamation point with a 3-pointer that made it 88-75 with 1:27 to go. "It's always exciting to play in front of your friends and family," Lewis said. "We're staying in Houston tonight, so I'm going home. Mom's cooking right now, and I'm ready to go home and eat!" Radmanovic had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Vitaly Potapenko scored 17 points for Seattle, which shot 48 percent (34-of-71), including 8-of-15 from the arc. "Houston just doesn't know how to play against us," radmanovic said. "We have a lot of big guys to match up against them and we also hit the outside shot." Steve Francis scored 15 points on just 4-of-18 shooting for the Rockets, who shot 34 percent (25-of-73) and fell to 0-3 against the Sonics this season. Houston center Yao Ming picked up two quick fouls and took an early seat on the bench. Francis was 0-of-7 in the first half, which ended with Seattle holding a 41-35 lead. "We keep saying we're a young team and we really have to work on some things," Yao said through an interpreter after scoring 14 points. "We have to mature sooner or later. We can't keep making excuses; we should be better." The Rockets opened the fourth quarter with a 14-3 run to tie it, but ran out of steam. They were upset with Seattle rookie Richie Frahm, who went in for an uncontested layup in the final seconds instead of dribbling out the clock, drawing a foul from Taylor. "He knows that wasn't right," Taylor said. "We'll set him straight the next game." "That was disrespectful," Rockets swingman Jim Jackson said. "That's something that you don't do in this league. If that was me, I would have fouled him a lot harder."
