Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Brad Miller wasted no time getting back into the flow. Miller scored 10 of his 16 points in the first quarter and Doug Christie fell just shy of a triple-double with a season-high 28 points, nine assists and eight rebounds as the Kings cruised to a 108-94 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Miller missed the previous seven games with a sprained right foot but hardly looked rusty, making 5-of-7 shots and grabbing six rebounds in the opening 12 minutes. "I started off good," he said. "I could tell that I hadn't played in a while. I felt pretty comfortable tonight. I just wanted to get into a rhythm and not try to do too much." "It's good to have Brad back," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said. "I wasn't worried about him fitting him. He's a smart player and he had a lot of energy to start the game. He had a typical game, typical of him." The Kings never trailed and pulled away midway through the third quarter. They had a 63-55 edge before scoring 12 of the next 16 points, highlighted by five from Mike Bibby. Miller buried a jumper during the spurt and Peja Stojakovic capped it with a pair of free throws for a 75-59 cushion with 4:06 remaining. Stojakovic scored 10 points in the third quarter and added five during a 7-0 run early in the fourth, finishing with 32 points. He made 9-of-21 shots, including 5-of-13 from 3-point range. Christie made 10-of-17 shots, including 3-of-6 3-pointers. He is averaging 19.3 points in his last three games - more than twice his season average. "I really just tried to be aggressive," he said. "When I caught it, I was just making sure I was looking at the basket, trying to be aggressive, getting guys involved, rebounding, whatever it took. Tonight all of those things just happened to click." Bibby added 17 points and seven assists for Sacramento, which has won eight consecutive regular-season home games against Phoenix dating to April 9, 2000. The Kings avoided their first losing streak since January 23-25, winning for the 13th time in 16 games. They moved one-half game ahead of the Indiana Pacers for the league's best record. "It was a win we needed to get after the other night," Adelman said. "I thought we did a pretty good job throughout the whole game." Amare Stoudemire tied a season high with 33 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Suns, who had a two-game winning streak snapped and fell to 7-25 on the road this season. "Amare had a monster game," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said. "He's improving all the time. (The Kings) are just a better team than we are right now. They just played better than we did."
