Game Story

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Wizards stayed hot behind Gilbert Arenas, who has been unstoppable. Arenas scored 14 of his 27 points in the decisive third quarter as the Wizards won for the fourth time in five games, defeating the Toronto Raptors, 84-70. The Wizards used a 13-0 run to erase a three-point third-quarter deficit and seize control. Arenas started and finished the run with long jumpers as Wasshington grabbed a 57-47 lead. "Right now you can't judge us on our record," Arenas said. "You have to judge us on how we've been playing lately. We're sharing the ball, everybody is contributing somehow. We're on a roll and we're going to stay with it and keep fighting." The Wizards led, 65-57, after three quarters and held on despite Arenas going scoreless in the fourth quarter. Arenas has led the Wizards in scoring for the third straight game, having scored 35 points in the previous two contests. "I thought Gilbert and Jarvis (Hayes) gave us good offensive opportunities, and again tonight, Gilbert was our catalyst," Washington coach Eddie Jordan said. Hayes scored 15 points and Etan Thomas added 15 and 12 rebounds for Washington, which went 3-1 vs. Toronto this season. "It was a goal and a mission statement for us to do the best we can in this five-game increment, starting with Toronto up there and finishing with Toronto tonight," Jordan said. "With the Lakers being the only loss, four out of five is a pretty good accomplishment." Donyell Marshall had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Raptors, who shot just 33 percent (29-of-88) from the field. The Wizards set a season high for rebounds, beating the Raptors, 61-38, on the glass. "They killed us on the boards," Marshall said. "They took it at us in every aspect of the game - the guards, the big men got inside and did what they wanted in the post. We didn't help each other, all of us, the whole team." Toronto superstar Vince Carter, playing on back-to-back nights after returning Tuesday from a sprainked ankle, looked fatigued as he scored 16 points, on 7-of-18 shooting. Carter scored just four points in the second half. "It stiffened up on me a little bit tonight," Carter said. "It felt good early, but I just got tired. What killed me was halftime. I just didn't have it."
