Game Story

DENVER (Ticker) -- Andrei Kirilenko and the Utah Jazz barely showed up for their biggest game this season. Andre Miller, rookie Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets did. With a chance to take over eighth place in the Western Conference, the Jazz received just three points from the All-Star Kirilenko and were blown out by the Nuggets, 102-75. Miller collected 24 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds and Anthony added 23 points and tough defense on Kirilenko. The Nuggets improved to 3-0 against the Jazz this season, giving them the tiebreaker edge. "This is a big game for us," Anthony said. "We had to protect our home court. We wanted this game - everybody was pumped up, even during the shootaround." "So much for playoff atmosphere," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "We look like our guys are still on vacation." Kirilenko missed all four of his shots and was kept on the bench by Sloan for the entire fourth quarter with the game out of hand. The game was tied, 14-14, before the Nuggets closed the first quarter on a 14-3 run. Denver, which held a 47-33 lead at the break, saw its advantage slip to eight points before pulling away late in the third quarter to take a 77-57 cushion into the final 12 minutes. "They just killed us from the beginning," Sloan said. "Our guys did not want to be touched - we looked like we wanted to play in tuxedos. ... They knocked us down, and we didn't get up and respond." "We were focused for this game," Anthony said. "We came out with some firepower tonight. Our confidence is up and it is hard to beat us when we play like that." Nene scored 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and Marcus Camby added 10 and 10 rebounds for the Nuggets, who shot just 42 percent (35-of-83) but limited the Jazz to 36 percent (28-of-77). It was Denver's third victory in four games after losing eight of nine. "We hit a bump in the road, but I am proud of how we have responded," Nuggets coach Jeff Bzdelik said. "We have won three out of the last four games. Now we have a three-game road trip against three very good opponents (Boston, Detroit and Minnesota). I hope we can respond." The Jazz, who had a three-game winning streak snapped, slipped to 1-1 on a five-game road trip. "It was a tough game to lose," said Jazz guard Carlos Arroyo, who scored 13 points. "They definitely played better than us. We needed to try to play as perfect as we can. They out-executed us. They are better than we are now. (But) our chance to make the playoffs doesn't end with this game." "They took us out from what we wanted to do, and we let them do it," said Jazz guard Raja Bell, who was limited to two points on 1-of-10 shooting. "It's pretty obvious we don't know how to react to that type of game. They had a great energy level. The even made fast breaks after made baskets."
