Game StorySACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings surprisingly used their defense to spark their offense. Mike Bibby scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half as the Kings rallied for a 101-87 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, who again played without superstar Tim Duncan. The Kings (49-17) caught the Indiana Pacers for the NBA's best record, which offers home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. But for three quarters, they struggled with the Spurs, who continue to show they are more than a one-man team. Two free throws by Brad Miller and a 3-pointer by Bibby opened the fourth quarter and gave Sacramento the lead for good at 73-68. The best offensive team in the NBA, the Kings then flashed some defense. Bibby and Doug Christie turned steals into layups, with Christie adding a free throw. "One person got in the passing lane and it rubbed off on everybody else," Bibby said. "That just got our energy going. We started making steals and getting easy baskets, getting fast-break points." "That was just the defense coming up when we needed it to," Miller said. "We shut them down and had them flustered where they were just kind of running around." Miller's jumper made it 82-71 with 8:06 left, and Sacramento led by double digits thereafter, allowing just 19 points in the fourth quarter. "That's something (defense) we've got to get better at," Miller said. "Playoff games will be in the 80s and (with) a lot of hard fouls, a lot of mood swings. That's kind of an example of what we're gonna need to do in the playoffs to be successful." The Kings had 14 steals - four by Christie and three by reserve guard Anthony Peeler - both of whom hounded Spurs guards Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. "We had a rash of six turnovers in about seven or eight possessions," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "Sacramento is just too good for that." Chris Webber scored 23 points and Miller added 19 and 13 rebounds off the bench for Sacramento, which avoided back-to-back losses for the first time since January 23-25. "We definitely wanted to pressure them more," Webber said. "Doug is incredible once again, keeping a guy like Parker in check like that." Ginobili scored 16 points and Rasho Nesterovic added 14 and 13 rebounds for the Spurs (44-23), who fell to 5-3 without Duncan. The two-time NBA MVP has played just 15 minutes since suffering a left quadriceps injury on February 26. "We've had those problems before (with Duncan) with the fourth-quarter meltdowns," Spurs forward Malik Rose said. "It's not like he's the end-all solution to that problem. But it would have definitely helped having him here." The Spurs held a 47-46 halftime lead and widened it to 63-55 on a runner by Parker midway through the third quarter. But Bibby scored 11 points in the period, which ended in a 68-68 tie.
