Game StoryLOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- All-Star Dirk Nowitzki bounced back from a sub-par game with a dominating performance, taking out his frustrations on the struggling Los Angeles Clippers. Nowitzki had 34 points and 15 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks handed the Clippers their fourth straight loss, 101-88. "Once you hit a couple of shots, your confidence gets bigger," Nowitzki said. "After that, for awhile, it looked like everything was going in. That's the NBA. It's always a different night." Nowitzki was 12-of-23 from the floor after going 3-of-13 and scoring only eight points in a victory over Phoenix on Saturday. The Mavericks closed the game on an 8-0 run, keyed by Nowitzki's jumper and four points from Steve Nash. With the victory, Dallas avoided losing the season series to Los Angeles for the first time since 1997-98 - the last time they did not make the playoffs. "Dirk did a great job shooting the ball tonight," Nash said. "Najera brought a lot of energy when he came into the game. The last two games everyone has stepped up and played well." Nash scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and handed out 11 assists as Dallas moved one game ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies for fifth place in the Western Conference. The Clippers had a chance after a 3-pointer by Quentin Richardson, who had 32 points and 11 rebounds, cut the deficit to 88-85 with just over four minutes left. However, Eduardo Najera blocked a shot, scored a basket and took a charge in a sequence that gave the Mavericks a 93-85 lead. "I was ready to play," Najera said. "My knee is sore and my hand is swollen, but the best medicine is to win." The charge call was disputed by Bobby Simmons, who picked up a technical with 3:04 to play, sealing the Clippers fate. Los Angeles tied a franchise record by making six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter but ultimately came up short. "We grinded as much as we could shooting 37 percent (31-of-84)," Los Angeles coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We had good games obviously from Corey (Maggette) and Q, but nobody else could get it going." Maggette scored 25 points but Elton Brand scored a season-low five points on 2-of-11 shooting in 38 minutes. His previous low of eight also was against Dallas. "It was a tough night," Brand said. "They were in a zone pretty much the whole game and they just kept running double teams at me. Every time I touched the ball you could hear their whole coaching staff yelling 'Brand.'" Chris Wilcox had to be helped off the court with 8:34 remaining due to a strained left Achilles tendon and did not return.
