Game StoryHOUSTON (Ticker) -- Joe Johnson's baseline jumper with 1.4 seconds to go in overtime lifted the Phoenix Suns to a 99-97 triumph over the Houston Rockets. In a tight contest featuring teams headed in different directions, Johnson buried his jumper over the outstretched arm of 7-5 center Yao Ming to enable Phoenix to snap a four-game losing streak. "I knew the clock was running down," Johnson said. "The coach told us he didn't want to give them more than two seconds so I was watching the clock, then I saw Yao backing up so I faded away for a jump shot." The Rockets had their season-high five-game winning streak snapped when Yao's 10-footer at the buzzer clanged off the rim. "I was the third option on that play, but the first two options didn't have a chance," Yao said through an interpreter. "At least I got a good look but it didn't go in." Shawn Marion scored 29 points, including a 3-pointer with 5.5 seconds left in regulation that tied the game, 88-88. Amare Stoudemire added 24 and 15 rebounds as the Suns snapped a three-game losing streak in Houston. "Sometimes that is how it happens," Marion said about his tying 3-pointer. "You have to be ready and I had to take the shot. It felt good." "For a defense-supposedly team with a defense-supposedly coach to not stop a 3-pointer like that is inexcusable," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said about the loss. "We had a chance to finish the game when we were up five. It's a bad loss." Yao had 29 points and 19 rebounds for Houston, which has not won six in a row since January 13-23, 2000. The Rockets led, 88-83, following a long jumper by Yao with 55 seconds left in regulation but could not hold the lead. Stoudemire had a basket prior to Marion's clutch jumper. The Suns frustrated the Rockets with a 1-2-2 full-court trap that enabled them to come back from a 21-point first-half deficit. Houston's 27 turnovers were their second-highest of the season and 24 were after the first quarter. "We had 27 turnovers in the game," Van Gundy said. "That is inexcusable ballhandling. After the first quarter, we played awful." Phoenix went to the trap early in the second after falling behind 33-15 and used it the remainder of the game. "We used that trap because they struggled with it the last couple of times we played them," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "The full-court press really bothered them." "It hurt us today," point guard Steve Francis said. "We weren't able to get the ball in the spaces where we normally do. It forced us to take tough shots." Francis was held to 12 points on 3-of-15 shooting. Phoenix improved to 3-1 against Houston in the final meeting between the teams this season. The Rockets were without forwards Maurice Taylor (strained ribs) and Clarence Weatherspoon (left ankle sprain).
