Game StoryNEW YORK (Ticker) -- Tim Thomas may soon make the Madison Square Garden faithful forget Keith Van Horn ever wore a Knicks uniform. Thomas scored 32 points and buried all six of his free throws in the final 18 seconds of overtime as the New York Knicks stole a victory from the hapless Washington Wizards, 114-110. One month ago, Thomas was acquired with Nazr Mohammed in a three-team deal that shipped Van Horn to Milwaukee. One week later, the Garden crowd was chanting Van Horn's name during a loss to Cleveland. "I had a nice rhythm going on and Steph was looking for me," said Thomas, who made 11-of-23 shots. "I am just trying to take advantage of every opportunity that I have. It was a dogfight all the way through, I was just constantly trying to get to the rack." Mohammed forced overtime as he barely beat the buzzer with a tip-in of Stephon Marbury's floater, tying the game at 96-96. The Knicks held a 43-33 lead in the second quarter, and it looked as if they might have an easy time of it. However, the Wizards closed the half on a 16-4 run to take a 49-47 halftime advantage. "We definitely didn't want it to turn out like that," Marbury said. We didn't play well at all tonight. We didn't maintain composure when we had the lead early." In the extra session, it was all Thomas and Marbury, who finished with 16 points and 14 assists. Thomas scored 10 points in the extra period and Marbury gave New York control, scoring four in a row to give the Knicks a 106-101 lead with 1:10 to play. "When you're home, you have to come out and jump on people," New York coach Lenny Wilkens said. "It was like we showed up and thought it was going to happen. We're not there yet, we have to learn to play hard the whole game." New York (31-37) remained tied with Miami for seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Gilbert Arenas scored 27 points and Jerry Stackhouse added 23 for the Wizards, who have lost seven straight overall and five in a row to the Knicks. Arenas left the door open for New York in regulation by missing the second of two free throws with six seconds left. "One free throw missed today and it had to be that one," Arenas said. "My bad." Knicks guard Allan Houston left the game midway through the first quarter after suffering a bruised left quadriceps. Houston was 0-of-4 from the field and scored just one point in nine minutes. "I got kneed above the knee, so it is just a matter of getting a couple of days rest and hopefully I'l be ready for Friday. It is that time of the season and we know what's at stake."
