Game StoryOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- A number of factors have given rookie Mickael Pietrus an opportunity to enhance his reputation as an effective defender. Pietrus held NBA scoring leader Tracy McGrady to 18 points on 5-of-14 shooting as the Golden State Warriors rolled to a 110-85 rout of the lowly Orlando Magic. "The team did a great job tonight, but the most important thing for us is to forget about tonight and think about our next game," said Pietrus, who blasted his teammates for selfish play two days ago. "I just tried to put my energy to the team and get some stops, and we did it." With injuries to a number of key players and the Warriors not headed to the playoffs, Pietrus has seen his playing time increase. Considered a decent defender, the 22-year-old Pietrus played a season-high 34 minutes in Monday's win over San Antonio. In just his seventh career start Wednesday, the 6-6 Pietrus played 25 minutes and spent most of them harassing the 6-8 McGrady into difficult shots. "He didn't have his usual game tonight," Magic coach Johnny Davis said. "I thought Pietrus did a good job defending him and I thought the other guys were really locked in on him. He did a good job distributing the ball; he had 10 assists. But it wasn't nearly enough, and it's difficult when he's not scoring for us." McGrady had scored 139 points in his previous three contests. But after scoring eight in a close first quarter, he did little. "They just double-teamed," said McGrady. "I've got a lot on my mind, I really wasn't into the game tonight." The All-Star guard learned after Saturday's home loss to Seattle that his greatgrandmother died. The funeral is Saturday. "I'm going home. I'm not going to be on the trip," McGrady said. "I've got family issues. My great-grandmother passed. I'm going home (Friday)." McGrady had just nine points on 2-of-9 shooting at halftime. Trailing 36-34, the Warriors used a 21-7 run to help open a 60-49 halftime advantage. "You could tell at the end of the first quarter it was going to be a long night and a struggle for us," McGrady said. "It was one of those games you already put it in the books." McGrady helped Orlando climb within 76-65 through three quarters, but Golden State opened the fourth period with a 9-0 spurt and never looked back. "I can't speak for the Magic and how tired they were," Robinson said. "I just thought we did a really good job at carrying over how we played against San Antonio into tonight's game." Reserve Troy Murphy scored 22 points and Clifford Robinson made four 3-pointers and added 20 for the Warriors, who have won two in a row following a nine-game slide. "(Troy) and Cliff do a really good job of stretching the defense out together because of their 3-point shooting," Warriors coach Eric Musselman said. Golden State improved to 5-0 at home and 5-1 overall wearing its throwback uniforms from 1966-67.
