Game Story

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Wizards are a better team when Gilbert Arenas does more than score. Arenas had a triple-double with 13 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds as the Wizards avenged last week's embarrassing loss to the Atlanta Hawks with a 94-84 victory. Arenas has had some huge scoring games of late, averaging nearly 29 points during a seven-game losing streak. He scored 40 points in a loss to Orlando and 30 in a 138-124 setback at Atlanta a week ago in which Washington appeared defenseless in blowing an 18-point lead. In this one, Arenas looked to get his teammates more involved, specifically Kwame Brown. "Gilbert, who loves to score, said, 'Let's work it to Kwame down in the post,'" Wizards coach Eddie Jordan said. Coming off a win over Sacramento in which he had 30 points and 19 rebounds, Brown collected 27 and 11. "I just wanted to come out and not overdo it, not try to score 30 again but bring the same energy," Brown said. "We were trying to make sure he came out and played like he did the last (game)," said Arenas, who feuded with Brown earlier this season. "His confidence is up, so you might as well feed him the ball now." Although he made just 4-of-15 shots, Arenas collected his third triple-double - more than any player except New Jersey's Jason Kidd, who has nine. The Wizards also shored up their defense, having surrendered 83 points to the Hawks in the second half of last week's loss. They limited Stephen Jackson - who had averaged 33.8 points in his last four games - to 17 on 7-of-21 shooting. "Everyone looked kind of tired today," Jackson said. "It was one of those games where we were flat." A dunk by Brown gave the Wizards the lead for good at 53-52 early in the third quarter. That was part of a 15-2 run that widened the advantage to 63-54 with 4:49 left.
